I saw this one FB today and can’t believe I never say this. Any other cool hidden art that ppl might miss at first glance?
I think calling this “hidden art” is a misunderstanding of what happened here.
I don’t think Giovanni is intentionally hidden to produce some kind of secret effect in the card. What is happening instead is that WotC holos are really dark, especially compared to their Japanese counterparts. When this Japanese non-holo card was printed with WotC foil, the image was just obscured to be nearly imperceptible.
Dark Dugtrio is an example that always comes to my mind because as a kid with my limited observation skills I never even realize there was an entire bedroom in the card art.
The Japanese card (and of course the non-holo) does not have this problem.
So while it’s cool that people are discovering Giovanni in this card art, it’s the result of poor image conversion than anything else.
I’ll always gonna highlight Masaki Alakazam regarding “Hidden Art” …
That card is Holo, but you can see “hidden” an Alakazam Shadow. If you ask me, it’s extremely cool!!!
Something similar happens with “Cool Porygon”.
However, the case of Cool Porygon is more difficult to see …
I noticed that there was Hidden Art due to “Pokémon Trading Card Game: Online Illustration Exhibition”. It was an Online Museum from 2022. It’s already closed, but I remember that Cool Porygon was one of its cards.
Hidden Art in this case is that there’re more Porygons around the main artwork.
This type of details in cards are extremely cool!!!.
The Porygon one is new to me and I own multiple versions of this card. That’s sick.
Didn’t know about the Porygon one either. Agree that that’s really cool! It lives up to its name.
This thread is a great read, you’ll find out so many secrets you never noticed.
How did I never notice the hidden Porygons? That is super cool! Thank you for sharing!
Just noticed this cool situation. The Poltchageist in Twilight Masquerade is placing ink on the kiddo’s hand. Then in Sinistcha’s card, the adult is looking at a photo book with a kid’s green hand print on it. lol
Well spotted! Love little details like this.
I’ve also just quoted your post in a related thread.
And welcome to E4. ![]()
Greetz,
Quuador
First appearance in japanese TV in 2004. In the games 2002?
Ho-oh existed nearly at the start so I don’t see why not!
Why Ho-oh? This was about a potential Shuppet in a Gastly card? What do I miss?
I was just emphasizing your statement. Ho-oh and many other future generations of pokemon already had been conceptualized at the same time as Gen 1. So I was just confirming the possibility and gave Ho-oh as an example.
Ok, thanks. I still like the coherence it offers.
I would have never noticed this on the actual card because of the texturing. ![]()
I have it and never realized it either for the same reason. Saw someone post it on reddit
Way harder to see on the thing irl
