Has anyone here ever tried to trace print runs and identify them? How far have you gotten?

This is something ive been thinking about lately and wondering what things other people may have found.

Do you mean in terms of 1st print and later print runs?

I didn’t actively track this but I noticed some differences for some modern Japanese sets per accident.

For example I ordered a Vstar Universe booster box when it first came out from the Pokémon center Japan. This first print had a booster box without paper zipper. When they reprinted the set a few months later they came with the paper zip.

I didn’t follow up on this since I did not care since the cards itself are the same (at least to my knowledge).

Another easier example are the shiny star V Booster boxes where the second print box didn’t have the stamp on it referring to a code card inside. The cards themselves weren’t any different.

Then another example that comes to mind is Eevee heroes. I don’t know how to spot it right from the box but the cards holo was slightly different for the later reprint than they were for the original print run.

Here is a reference for the Vstar Universe booster box (with and without paper zip).

Sidenote: because of the paper zip the placement of some of the text is also different on the side where the zip is located.

I actually made a spreadsheet that continues the thread Will mentioned all the way up to current sets.

Was prob gonna post it in June when TCP updates their yearly numbers.
