I’ve heard some people mention this briefly so wanted to hear what others think.
If you were to send say ~100 of the same card to PSA for grading all in one go, is it likely that the cards would be graded harder than a few at a time?
The thinking seems to be that if you have to stare at 100 of the same cards back to back you’re probably going to start noticing small variances, perhaps resulting in more PSA 9 instead of 10.
Has anyone got any experience with submitting the same card in bulk like this? Would it be better to instead do 10x 10 separate submissions and hope they’re handled by different people? Interested to hear some thoughts.
My personal experience is that this is a myth. If you’re submitting several hundred of the same card in one go then sure, I can understand, however chances are your submission will be sandwiched in between several other very similar submissions anyway and it ultimately won’t matter.
At the end of the day graders are human (for now, at least). If they’re having a tough day that’ll probably be reflected in the grades you get; likewise if it’s last thing on Friday or first thing on a Monday that’ll also probably have an impact on the grades. This is something you have no control over whatsoever.
Until our wonderful human graders are replaced by an autonomous AI army the grades your cards receive will always be impacted by what mood the grader is in on that given day at that given time; the quantity and order you submit your cards in will have very little impact.
Graders get paid To be honest and consistent with their duties and that’s to grade cards regardless of how many there are.
They have bad days and good days though just like anyone else. I think with the amount of cards PSA gets they do a decent job at being consistent.
Think about how many cards they get daily. It’s overwhelming I’m sure. It’s a job just like any other regardless.
To answer the question though, I feel you’re submitting a 100 of the same card , I would imagine they would be more lenient. Just my opinion and thoughts.
I have always wondered this, too. Specifically, if someone was to crack 10 strong PSA 9s and send them all together, what would be the chances of one or two come back a 10? If a grader is looking at a stack of minty cards, would they be more inclined to sprinkle a few 10 designations in there?
My experience of sending multiples of the same copies has been mixed. I have had occasions where all came back 10s and others where is felt they were a bit harsh, and gave some cards 8 which i would have thought would usually be a 9.
If you send a bazillion of the same modern card there is a higher chance it will take longer than a diverse more ‘fun’ to grade sub.
