What are your opinions about grading your childhood cards? I only have a handful left from mine and I’ve gone back and forth on whether or not to send them to PSA. I’d never sell them of course, that’s not why I’m doing it, just more so because my entire collection is PSA graded except these three and I feel like it’d off better protection and ability to display them. On the other hand, as silly as it sounds, it almost seems wrong to do and part of me thinks I should just leave them in their natural habitat. Haha. What do y’all think? Just thinking out loud here.
I think if it’s for preservation it’s a good idea. At the end of the day the cases do offer a form of protection
I would never grade a card that I would never sell.
I have three childhood cards I’m grading (played condition). I don’t collect Yu-Gi-Oh but I spent a fortune of time battling friends so I want to be able to display and remember them.
It might be a good idea if you have multiple copies of childhood cards that are nearly indistinguishable. The cert numbers can help you identify which is which.
Kinda what I’m thinking!
You pulled a Rayquaza
two decades ago? That’s incredible luck!
The first cards I ever graded were my childhood cards. I’m with it
Just make sure to ship them with a carrier you trust as they are quite sentimental
Pulled a 10 on the gold star Mewtwo from your childhood. That’s a huge win
I’m overly possessive of the 5 Gyarados cards that started my collection though I have considered grading them with the likes of BGS or AGS if they ever did overseas. But outside of AGS labels, I’d want to be able to have free reign on customization - a missed opportunity I feel like is missing from a lot of grading companies.
I just want my childhood favorites to be presented incredibly nicely. For that, I’m happy to keep them in screw-downs:
I graded a bunch of my childhood cards! Many didn’t end up with good grades (I certainly didn’t get any 10s) but this one I’m very happy about. I bought two Neo packs with my allowance at a convenience store, pulled this out of one and a holo Ho-oh out of the other (that one graded a PSA 8). I think it’s a nice way to lock in a memory and put them on display for nostalgia!
It’s beautiful and I hope you treasure it everyday
I’d vote not to. For me personally, I have all of my old cards from when I was a kid and think it brings back more memories seeing them in the toploaders and binder pages like it was back then. Have upgraded to better binders but still mostly the same. Plus if that were to get lost in shipping, that would be devastating I think.
Pretty much every card ive graded from my childhood collection i sold (which i regret now, despite it only being 3 i think). Id say keep em in the binder. I dont rly think the psa case offers more protection than a soft sleeve and a binder, plus i find slabs arent as fun to enjoy. Still got my whole childhood collection in a binder
I agree with this thought personally.
The only childhood card I’ve graded, and also the last childhood card I’d grade:
Goes well together with my other graded Moltres.
(It’s my favorite artwork of all TCG cards.)
Greetz,

My dad loves throwing away clutter. And in that period where I wasn’t into Pokemon between childhood and adulthood they all went to the dumpster
