God-tier Holo Swirls Megathread

Here’s my Bubblegum Swirl Squirtle. Bought raw from Japan and it graded a 10.

What’s cool is the base of the swirl starts exactly at the mouth and blows into the bubble

This card and Mewtwo ex from R&S always live rent free in my head as the perfect swirl cards. Congrats on this pickup and grade!

I cannot for the life of me remember if I ever posted the holo-bleed belly swirl Raichu chilling in my binder?

If not, here he is doing his best Poliwag impression:

Does this qualify? How much do ppl even overpay for cool swirl placements?

Great basketball dribble swirl on Feraligatr!

It massively varies, but swirl collectors will generally pay a small premium for a well placed one, or a vintage WoTC holo with multiple swirls in the art box.

Anyone seen this before? I’m familiar with random “half swirls” in Neo, but never seen a swirl cut off in the middle of the artwork in Gym like this.

similar copy sold today very soon after being posted. pretty interesting

this post on this thread shows how the double holos are formed. Kinda cool! So it seems like that the swirl got cut off between another holo sheet  very unique for sure!

I’m not entirely sure if this one counts… I’ve always assumed it was a double-swirl though. I’ve had it since 2000.

Great cards!

Just to let you know, these are not double swirls. Every card with a swirl can recreate this pattern under the right circumstances. This is the same swirl pattern lit from multiple directions concurrently, thus creating the phenomenon of a swirl within a swirl.

These are the main characteristics of every swirl: 1) when lit from one source of light, changing the angle of the card will change the placement of the swirl’s tail, and 2) when lit from multiple sources of light, the swirl’s pattern will show concurrently from each angle.

Double swirls do exist, but it’s because the holo pattern repeats itself within close proximity on those cards. Therefore, two single swirls are not obscured by the white underprinted layer. More can be read about double swirls here.
