Genshin Impact

Hi guys! Just wanted to see if anyone else here plays Genshin impact. I thought it was just gonna be a crappy gacha version of breath of the wild when I first started playing it, but honestly the game is pretty awesome. It can definitely be frustrating though if you don’t pull your favorite characters but regardless I still think the game is super fun

Basically, genshin is a free open world adventure game for phones/PCs/Ps4s/switches(soon) where you use characters with different elemental abilities. It’s the closest thing to an avatar the last airbender/hunter x hunter game(even has the voice actors/actresses of multiple hunter VAs like killua and gon) I’ve found. Very free flowing gameplay but if you have a gambling/collecting addiction then the game can be crippling when it comes to the characters and weapons lol. For example, I pulled a 5 star spear the other week for free(staff of homa) that a youtuber literally spent over $500 on rolls to get

I’m also pretty hyped because I pulled Eula and Jean in a single 10 pull
If you’ve never played this game then that probably means nothing to you though. In that case, I basically pulled two alt arts in the same pack

I’ve considered trying it out. The style and gameplay clicks with me, but I find gacha deplorable, so I’m torn. The last time I tried out a f2p game (Blade&Soul), there came a point where you had to pay for items and level ups or grind your butt off, and by that point you had already played dozens of hours. And since I didn’t want to pay, it felt like I wasted my time. Not sure if GI is like that as well

I’m with you. I’ve heard it feels almost like Zelda: BoTW? People seem to like it, but it seems like a grindy cash grab, so no-go for me.

The game is not bad, you can definitely F2P it without feeling you’re behind Pay2Win players. Essentially for whales, you have challenges specific for them in which the difficulty is cranked to 10 to maximize rewards (most rewards are generic so you won’t really miss out on anything), but otherwise the game isn’t really blocked by paywalls. It is pretty grindy, and only fun with friends.

I would say if you have nothing to do and looking for a game to play, it’s definitely not bad. If you have a busy schedule already, this game is not for you.

@nuttun I agree with your points. I think the beauty in the game is in its exploration and music, it’s a seriously good looking open world. Focusing too hard on artifacts/resin/character pulls and stuff though stresses people out but if you take what the game gives, I feel like it’s a worthwhile experience
It does suck though that things are time gated when you have a structured schedule but usually I just condense my resin and play when I can

And @ripguyfawkes I think the game is definitely a bit similar to your description of Blade&Soul. It’s an RPG game so it has those traditional elements of leveling up the characters, the weapons, and the characters individual talents. The cool thing about GI is that it has multiple world levels. Basically, the enemy mobs in the game scale with your level, that way you aren’t just destroying everything and that way you also aren’t being crushed by certain enemies ~ you never really feel behind or too far ahead which I like. I don’t want to push the game too much further onto anyone because although I’ve loved it so far, I know it’s not for everyone, but if you are interested I’d check out a youtuber named Mtashed as he makes pretty good/funny content that covers the game
