One thing to bear in mind is that even if you have all the money in the world, you will not be able to buy up the market. I’m sure what is listed on ebay is only a fraction of what is out there.
So yes, I think it’s best to just focus on your own collection goals and to add to your positions slowly
I definitely agree. Not everyone can have a foresight or just the luck to have gotten into it. Your story Gary is like a lot of my biggest finds. Dad’s who got into it with their kids. They held onto it but after awhile they sold.
Pokemon is like Bitcoin when it was near $20k, or the certain companies who had a price explosion. Most people come to it after it already happened. People always seem to jump onto things after they realize it’s valuable. Most of us here recognized Pokemon’s value (monetary or otherwise) much sooner than the public.
Absolutely right. Oddly, but fortunately for me, not many were old enough or experienced enough to realize that Pokemons unprecedented popularity in 1999-2003 would translate into a solid investment. GV didn’t realize it either.
The real Gary, @KingPokemon indeed - do you feel this way actually regarding the hobby? I’ve only gotten more serious very recently, and I do feel late to the party for sure. Maybe my maximum, maximum limit is something like USD 4000 per card, and that can get me 7~8% of a 1st edition PSA 10 Charizard, but there are plenty of other nice and valuable old cards at decent grades that I can buy with that budget.
Price-wise, I feel that we’ll look back at today’s prices and laugh in 10 years time, similar to how you must feel currently about some of your purchases 15 years ago.
