So true story time… A guy took part in the beta testing and won the top chase card in his tier which was a shadowless psa 9 chansey holo. He posted it on eBay to make a quick flip at auction but took it down. I messaged him and he shared the video of it being pulled (link below if you care to see). He took it down because he thought he had the title wrong and was not sure if it was base set as a shadowless card. Major reminder that you have no control over what you get and may have no real knowledge of these cards. I offered him 1k off eBay since he values it at 1.2k according to GameStop and he took that deal.
Now it’s mine and I’m so stoked that I got the elusive shadowless PSA 9 chansey from this nonsense gambling!
Here’s the livestream where it was pulled on the GameStop Powerpacks beta!
The payout breakdown follows the same progression as any slot machine or lottery. Most of the time you will lose a good chunk of your money, but the incredibly rare jackpot/hit is enough to offset the average payout so they can claim the EV is near 100%. Very lucrative…
Probably positively. This is the first attempt at re-innovating themselves that seems to be working in a long time. They’ve been really preaching the whole “physical media > digital” argument, which is going to ultimately help them keep a smaller, slightly older, more dedicated audience than what they’ve had for most of their existence.
I think their identity crisis is over, and they’re getting back into really pushing physical games and TCGs, as they should be. Lord knows all of the funko pop and cheap plastic nerd culture merchandising junk they’ve been shoveling money into for the last 5 years wasn’t doing much except take up floor space.
