GameStop Pokemon Power Packs

So true story time… A guy took part in the beta testing and won the top chase card in his tier which was a shadowless psa 9 chansey holo. He posted it on eBay to make a quick flip at auction but took it down. I messaged him and he shared the video of it being pulled (link below if you care to see). He took it down because he thought he had the title wrong and was not sure if it was base set as a shadowless card. Major reminder that you have no control over what you get and may have no real knowledge of these cards. I offered him 1k off eBay since he values it at 1.2k according to GameStop and he took that deal.

Now it’s mine and I’m so stoked that I got the elusive shadowless PSA 9 chansey from this nonsense gambling!

Here’s the livestream where it was pulled on the GameStop Powerpacks beta!

Congrats on the card!

The payout breakdown follows the same progression as any slot machine or lottery. Most of the time you will lose a good chunk of your money, but the incredibly rare jackpot/hit is enough to offset the average payout so they can claim the EV is near 100%. Very lucrative…

How long until this is regulated like gambling?

That’s the problem, gambling isn’t regulated anymore.

How does this effect gamestop stock for the future?

Probably positively. This is the first attempt at re-innovating themselves that seems to be working in a long time. They’ve been really preaching the whole “physical media > digital” argument, which is going to ultimately help them keep a smaller, slightly older, more dedicated audience than what they’ve had for most of their existence.

I think their identity crisis is over, and they’re getting back into really pushing physical games and TCGs, as they should be. Lord knows all of the funko pop and cheap plastic nerd culture merchandising junk they’ve been shoveling money into for the last 5 years wasn’t doing much except take up floor space.

Looking forward to welcoming the new users to the fourum who “hit it big” on their first try (and definitely didn’t blow $20k on packs beforehand)!

I just opened them and I got cooked, I spent $950. I sold some bad cards and got a little less in value than what I spent I guess?

Unfortunate luck. Which tier of packs were these from?

Can’t believe we bailed out GameStop just for them to become this

Hit a banger, I am now -$700 in GameStop packs. I’m never rolling again. I bought a $1000 pack and got a psa 9 giratina v alt I’ll probably just keep it

You never quit when you are behind, keep rolling

7x is an “old cert” now

using average is deceptive and they prolly chose it to trick the gambling noobs. for one they prolly created these sets when the cards are at hyperinflated values but even when they are not u can still dump thousands of junk slabs for just a couple of major “hits”

if they used the median instead the it would prolly be like 20% of the box value  similar to how the median income in the US is 60k or w/e but the average would be like hundreds of k

Rather than power packs, it would be cool if someone like Target teams up with GameStop and makes dedicated retail space.

They have lots of retail locations, they already started doing the store inside a store concept with Ulta makeup, Starbucks, etc.

Digital pack stuff just seems like a temporary gambling loophole.

Buy the cards you like, and get help
