GameStop and PSA partner up to offer digital mystery packs. Thoughts?

My heart says this is what it looks like to trade reputation for short term profits. My brain says no one will really care.

I hope that this new product does poorly, but I know that it won’t. One step closer to the corporatization of our hobby. From local card stores and small collecting circles to digital gambling products, bots, scalpers, and live stream updooters.

Every time we move closer to a “new normal,” I feel a tinge of grief for the innocence that the collecting hobby has lost.

Its similar for me. I’m trying hard to fight crashing out honestly.

Unfortunately this will be a massive success. I’m not a fan of how much influence Collectors Universe has over the market. Grading, pricing, vaulting, selling. Just seems like a lot of conflict of interests. It’s kind of wild to think about how much value they can extract out of a single card

Given the amount of shilling Ive already seen of this service on reddit, lets assume that some of those accounts arent shills but real people. Whats to stop Gamestop from front loading the pulls to drive up interest and scaling back to pull max profit? Its all digital so I dont think that it would be that hard to tweak some code to adjust rates and tweak back once they get the go ahead. Can any of the programmers please tell me that this wouldnt be reasonably possible?

according to da maths  these are independent events so whatever ppl pull shouldnt affect ppls purchase decision

unless its all from the same pool then if ppl pull all the good stuff at first then no one should want to buy it after anyway

Ah yes, it’s not gambling because of the barely positive EVs. If we’re following this blatantly bad logic, why are you supporting a company this gleeful about (supposedly) throwing money away?

the duality of stonkbros…

its just shilling, I wouldn’t get too worked up over it. There is better stuff to use your brain power on. People will just create a ton of accounts to shill from. Also reddit is astroturf city so not that much reason to even use it for any purpose as it is.
