Exactly; I only put cards on the front side of each binder page. But if you’re just using penny sleeves, then maybe you can safely do both sides of the page. The primary reason why I only do one side of the page is that I use KMC perfect fits + Dragon Shield clear classic sleeves, which make each card pretty thick. So the binders would barely even close if I put cards on both sides of the page.
Another benefit to just putting cards on one side of the page is if you’re storing warped holos. If you put two warped holos back-to-back it can irreparably damage both cards (I’ve learned this the hard way).
Yea good to learn this now before I start compiling some of the higher end binders I want to start working on. I have been so torn on kmc perfect fits vs penny sleeves. A second layer would definitely be nice but those perfect fits are right I’m scared every time I load them . Looking forward to hearing what Jon’s take is as well
In terms of binder sleeves, I use ultra pro deck protectors. Only one sleeve. I like to collect pack fresh and mint cards and worry about nicking the cards on the edges of the perfect fit sleeves. Also worry about damage on the side of the cards sliding them in and storing them that way. As mentioned they’re tight. My favorite binders are the side loading ultra pro premium pro binders.
An additional warning when it comes to binders … Make sure that the number of pages in the binder are appropriate for the size of the binder. Too few and the pages might move too much, potentially deforming cards in those pages.
This effect is much worse with binders stored horizontally, where a top page or two can bow upwards and get stuck along the front cover This can occur from things as stupid as a bit of static electricity, or an overly stiff page getting too far in on the D-ring of a typical binder. This bowing has sufficient force to crease the backs of foil cards over time. I managed to deform a few base first edition foils in this manner, turning a NrMt Blastoise into a card not worthy of a played binder set.
Have a link to the sleeve model? Excessively nervous about all of this want to feel max confidence in storing them long term. It seems there are a few different ultra pro deck protector models (I also use the ultra pro binders, they are great!)
Quick note I only store my binders vertically. If I didn’t, the holo mark on the back of the ultra pro sleeve might make me nervous if the binders were stored horizontally
Ok haven’t posted here in a while and I’m sensitive to not posting Pokemon cards. But quick update I have rebuilt what is probably one of the most substantive magic the gathering collections in the US and thought I would share a bit. I have assembled a total of 172 BGS 10 cards from Alpha, Arabian Nights, Antiquities, Legends. The pic below represents some of the BGS 10 highlights. Unlike Pokemon, mtg is predominantly a BGS hobby. The power 9 are a combination from my graded Alpha registry set, my mint binder sets, and random playsets. In total, I’m one mox jet short of six full sets of power. Three full sets of alpha, one beta, one unlimited and one mixed. The bottom three rows of raw cards are pack fresh mint from my binder sets. Lotus pics are for condition examples of the raw cards. Hope some of those crossover collectors like me will enjoy!

For those who don’t collect MTG, Libraries are one of the top cards to hit in Arabian Nights. People used to call it the 10th power piece. This referring to the Power 9; the most powerful cards in the game. To pull one is like hitting a charizard, to pull 2 from 2 packs is honestly something that may have never happened before, or will again! Also the art is s tier:
