Off topic from Pokemon, but just a vent. Getting a lot of ebay buyers, ordering and then asking the most stupid of questions a day or so after whilst the item is in the post.
Most ending up in them apologising and saying sorry for my miss understanding, ill have to return it when it arrives.
Its business but finding myself having to wait a couple of hours after people messaging as to allow myself to provide a professional response.
Even had one purchase a £500 item and said sorry my kid bought it please refund, yer no worries thanks for the £17.5 paypal fees.
This has only really been noticeable since lock down. End of Rant.
@justmatt, yeah, thats always a frustrating occurrence. Ive specified in all my listings to message with questions prior to buying/bidding, but you still get those instances that shoot up right after an order is placed or a little afterward. I feel that just comes with the territory, but best I can recommend is blocking the buyer immediately after to avoid any future hassle. Most of those people who do such things arent ones youd want to do business with anyway and they’re plenty of good buyers that always outweigh the bad, so just keep that in mind to ease the stress.
Sometimes I am finding it maybe people on mobiles that are not reading the descriptions, sometimes its difficult to even find the description on some phones. A common question is ‘is this new’ Even though its listed as new, I then always have in my description as my opening line. ‘This is Brand new in its box’
Yesterday I had this question and the item is listed as new, and has the fact that it is new written twice in the description, I mean if they’ve missed if the item is new, what else have they missed?. I had to say, please can you make sure you read through the description before we go any further with this conversation. Often my items are technical parts for boilers and machinery. I do regularly as you say just block someone with a estranged question, I do not want them buying my item. Thankyou for the support.
Incredibly annoying situation with this happened to me last week.
Buyer offers $3,000 on a booster box I have listed at $3,300 OBO. I’m willing to accept this offer, it’s around what I’m looking for (Plasma Storm for anyone curious)
Before I checked my notifications to accept, buyer sends questions asking for more photos. Note, this request came AFTER making the offer. I had already wrapped this box up for packaging, but the buyer couldn’t have known that, so while it was somewhat annoying for me, I was happy to unwrap, provide more pics, rewrap.
Buyer expresses interest (well duh, they already offered?) and asks to confirm the seal is intact. I send additional pictures confirming yes, the seal is intact. I accept the buyer’s offer.
Buyer contacts me on Instragram asking if I can cancel their order so they can pay via PayPal off eBay for discount price of $2850. If they had done this as Step 1 that would be one thing, but eBay has already logged their PayPal account to this purchase, so I would have a high chance of being flagged for selling off eBay.
At this point I am quite annoyed, because the buyer’s shipping address is in a state with high sales tax, so I know they are saving good money already by buying off eBay. The buyer mentions their shipping address is actually in a different state than the one listed on eBay.
I let them know I am willing to do $2,850 if they can pay via a different PayPal account or payment method, as I don’t want to be flagged or hit with retroactive fees. They say they’ll see if can ship to a friend in another state and use his PayPal.
During the few days this conversation takes place, a Plasma Storm box is up for auction on eBay, so I sort of wonder if they are waiting to see what the item ends at in case they can use that to barter for a better deal. Well, naturally it ends at exactly $3,000, their original offer.
I ask for followups over the next few days. I try to minimize my trips to the post office in-person during covid and do not want to make a separate trip just for this box.
Yep this is literally what I am getting. This weekend I received an offer of £700 on a £950 designer mirror unit. Its massive like 1.5m square. Anyway its a collection only so I messaged them to say due to no proof of collection we require cash on collection (does say this in the listing) and they are fine with, I just always check first. I also say please be careful not to automatically pay with paypal as this costs me the paypal fee if I have to refund. Again they fully understand and seem a genuine buyer, we discussed they have a suitable vehicle to collect it due to its size. I accept the offer, exchange details, address and contact number. All arranged for 11 am sunday.
Took a trip to my units as I have collections from a different location due to value there. Spent 2 hours getting it on a truck and back with a friend. 8pm saturday:
So I get these things happen, and similar to you, its my choice/business plan that I have to move some items but obviously its all costed in and is the best way for me to store some long term items. Basically a store for my showroom.
It just rattles me how specific these things are, and the items are in great detail, to just get ‘sorry too big, not coming’
