Ill sign up to be slaughtered again in singles ![]()
Morning all! Thank you to everyone who registered for the Gen 9 tournies.
Don’t forget that sign-ups will be open until Sunday, June 7 at midnight (PDT), so if you still wanted to register there’s plenty of time.
If you haven’t played VGC or Gen 9 Regulation F before, we have a number of experienced players who can help you out with team building or strategies. @bule @Tryson21 @caughtatpoint
Haze goes brrr
Order UP!!!
Once again i will join both tournaments so i can ruin strategies that have been known to work with my insistence on using new-to-me pokemon and items that may have uses only in fringe cases.
Good morning, everyone. Still a couple weeks left if you were interested in joining either bracket.
Sign ups and VGC team submissions due on Sun, June 7
I’d like to share my battle analysis of the deciding match (Game 3 in the Best of 3) of the last tournament from my point of view.
For those who are still in the fence of joining this tournament: if you enjoy this kind of analysis then you’d enjoy playing in this well-organized fun tournament
. And as DDK mentioned before, if you need to get some help with VGC Regulation F feel free to DM me.
Team Preview
This is our third match against each other with the same teams, so by now I’ve worked out most of DDK’s sets and switch-ins (and safe to assume DDK knows mine too).
My primary win condition is through Choice Specs Modest Tapu Lele spamming Moonblast. To make that work, I first need to remove Melmetal and Heatran, since both Steel-types wall it.
My lead of choice is Tornadus-T. It’s a good lead in general and it’s my least useful member in this matchup, so if it can even just Knock Off an item from Melmetal, Heatran, or Tapu Fini before going down, I’ll count that as a positive trade.
Turn 1
DDK leads Melmetal. My plan is to Knock Off its Leftovers and then save Tornadus-T as a sacrifice later.
Turn 5
One of the first pivotal turns. Scald has a 30% chance to burn, and if Tapu Lele gets burned here, my primary win condition is significantly weakened. Fortunately, no burn this time.
Turn 9
The first KO of the match: Melmetal goes down. Good progress toward enabling my win condition.
Turn 10
I switch Seismitoad into Heatran. Seismitoad has heavy SpD investment, so I’m confident it survives the Magma Storm + Earth Power combo, barring unlucky SpD drops from Earth Power. Magma Storm’s trapping effect is dangerous, but at 75% accuracy it isn’t reliable (although DDK hit all 10/10 Magma Storms across our three matches) and SpD drop from Earth Power is only 10% chance. This is an odd that heavily favors me so I will take the chance.
Turn 16
The turning point of the game. Seismitoad finally faces Tapu Fini outside of Misty Terrain, which lets me click Toxic. If Fini gets badly poisoned, Seismitoad wins the 1v1. I was surprised DDK didn’t switch Fini out (!). He mentioned afterward that he’d misplayed by not tracking the terrain turn count. Toxic lands (90% accuracy), and I’m now clearly ahead.
Turn 18
Garchomp switches into Scald and, crucially, gets burned. I have PhysDef Rocky Helmet Corviknight and Clefable to handle it, and with the burn cutting its Attack, it becomes even harder for Garchomp to break through either of them.
Turn 27
Another lucky break, Weavile switches into Scald and also gets burned. Clefable is still at full health and Corviknight is above half. And now with Weavile burned, Seismitoad can now 1v1 DDK’s entire remaining team, so from here I just need to close out the endgame cleanly, gg.
Additional interesting context: Seismitoad is not in OU tier (it’s not even UU tier) so usually teams don’t prepare for it. It’s probably the MVP of this Grand Final set so interestingly another Water/Ground-type ended up as my MVP (previously Gastrodon in Gen 7 VGC).
Hi everyone, just a little over a week left for signups for the tournaments. Here are the current registrant counts for both brackets (as of June 5, 2026).
VGC: 18
Singles: 14
If you were on the fence about joining there’s still time! VGC especially is a ton of fun this Gen!
Sign me up for both please. Thank you.
Cheers!
Hi everyone, one more week left to sign up for the brackets (Sun June 7 midnight PST).
For VGC, teams are due at the same time. I will give a few days extension for people who sign up late but no more than that.
@tstark20 @garret_phung @pfm let me know if you guys are in. Would love to have you.
I’ll join, I may need an extra day to make my team though; busy work week/weekend!
Can you remind me the regulation again?
