Singles OU Grand Finals: an intense battle with @ddk that spans 1.5 hours and came down to g3
Coming into the Finals from Loser’s bracket, I have to win two consecutive sets of Bo3 in order to be crowned the first place winner. I am also coming as the underdog (lost my last two sets against ddk the Final Boss) so I have to be extra prepared for the battle.
With my back against the wall, I turned to AI (no kidding
) to generate me/teambuild 10 teams I can use that would be strong against ddk’s most-used style of plays and Pokemon selections. DDK is a very strong player so if I came into the battle with matchup disadvantage, it will be very hard to outplay him. When I tried those teams on the Showdown ladder however, only about half is actually good against common good teams (I don’t want to auto-loss if he decided to use other archetypes). So I came into the Grand Finals with 5 teams and have to pick potentially 2 (if I managed to win the first one).
Below are the replays (a must watch) that determine whether I will end up in the 2nd place again or winning it all:
Set 1, Game 1
[Gen 8] OU: dondonkun vs. bule on e4 - Replays - Pokémon Showdown!
Set 1, Game 2
[Gen 8] OU: bule on e4 vs. dondonkun - Replays - Pokémon Showdown!
Set 2, Game 1
[Gen 8] OU: dondonkun vs. bule on e4 - Replays - Pokémon Showdown!
Set 2, Game 2
[Gen 8] OU: dondonkun vs. bule on e4 - Replays - Pokémon Showdown!
Set 2, Game 3 (Tournament-decider Match)

Spoiler result: I won very narrowly
