@godcomplex fulfilled the prophecy by quickly handing me my butt (in the words of @rtas). @godcomplex win 2-0 with a strong team and some knowhow of something called strategy. I’ll have you know, my shiny breloom looked cool though… for like 2 seconds before it died.

@godcomplex You swapped teams in Game 2. Swapping teams within the same set/opponent is not allowed as per our rules:
The second game will therefore count as a win for @lyleberr, making the set score 1-1.
Please play a tiebreaker game with the exact same teams both of you brought to the first game.

FYI SeasidePokemon’s VGC team was slightly updated as I missed that he had a Tyranitar in his original submission and it is not legal in VGC 2009 (due to it evolving at level 55 and all Pokemon being level 50). This has been updated in the post with everyone’s teams.

FYI for anyone who’s yet to battle with your ‘09 VGC team, showdown won’t let you know your team isn’t legal until you actually try to bring it to a battle. Don’t be like me and keep your opponent waiting, double check that your team is up to code!

Was it set up as VGC 09 or gen 4 ou when you clicked validate? You could replace tyranitar with hippo if you need sand but yeah not as kewl
I considered Hippowdon but ended up going with Hitmontop. Only to realize Hitmontop learns Close Combat at level 51… so I then had to swap it for Brick Break

Fun games! Was pretty close all things considered. Just came down to Gyarados waterfall flinches at the end.

Played a few games against @banks tonight and won 2-0.
The team Banks used is actually quite terrifying and with the wrong lead match ups might have been a very different game. Regardless, I had a great time!
