Yup, you’re in for both!
Welcome @xtranapkin. Lovely to have you on baord and also participating in the tournament. Looking forward to it.
Cheers!
Hope everyone had a great time at Worlds! If you caught the VGC matches, the finals were absolutely incredible!
Reminder that there’s still one week left to register for both brackets. If watching Worlds left you with a competitive battling itch, you can try out VGC here!
Also, we’re now at 16 entrants for VGC Doubles and 14 for Singles. If we hit 20 in either bracket, I’ll be adding some prizes to the pool for Top 3!
Good morning everyone! Reminder that today is the last day to sign up for both brackets!
Following back up on this as I’m now done with both worlds, organizing the E4 meet up and my wonderful Covid that followed it, yay socializing with people again!
So, in regards to doing VGC correctly I have no real way of setting up a server as I have no knowledge of how to do so (open to learn, just don’t know if I have the time to do so).
If anyone has the ability to point me in the direction of learning material, or knows a staff member that can set it up on showdown I would love to hear from you. Otherwise, I think best option might be to use something like a third party site for team sheets and bracket information.
Guess we’ll see how we want to do this.
Sign me up for both please! I just started playing on showdown, but I’m always down for a fun time!
I request to sign up for the singles bracket ![]()
Sign ups are now closed for the tournament…but I haven’t done seeding or made the brackets yet so if anyone still wants to join THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO SIGN UP!
In addition, to compensate for Showdown’s inadequacy with VGC 2009, we’ll have to do things differently than expected:
-
For the VGC bracket only, you can only use one team of 6 throughout the entire bracket. No swapping between sets. This is in line with how official VGC brackets operate.
-
Players will be required to post their entire team, including Pokemon, moves, abilities, items and EVs before their first round. This is called “open team sheet” and it’s something that official VGC tournaments run now.
Both of these restrictions are because the Showdown teambuilder for VGC 2009 only lets you build a team of 4 Pokemon when it’s supposed to be “team of 6, but bring 4/6 to each game”. You are allowed to choose any 4 of your 6 for each game, which allows for adaptation within a set.
If anyone is confused, I can clarify further.
I would like to note, that typically open team sheet does NOT include EV’s. I would request this part be removed to be in line with traditional open team sheet.
I only mentioned them because PokePaste shows them when exporting a team. If there’s a way to remove EVs on that then that’s fine.
Just don’t add EV’s for building, add them later. That way you can post a fully public team sheet.
Event organizer should get the FULL sheet complete with EV’s. So a public copy and an organizer copy.
The concern here would be I watch my opponents match and realize his starmie out runs my jolteon. I then switch things up so that my jolteon out runs his. EV’s should not be changeable during bracket play.
Forgot to ask but what is your prior experience/skill level with Pokemon battling? Need a rough idea for seeding. Thanks!
I was decent back in the day
Hi Everyone,
Brackets have been generated and are now live. Seeding was randomized within three different skill tiers of players to provide a more balanced experience.
E4 Generation 4 OU Singles
E4 Generation 4 OU Singles Live Bracket
E4 Generation 4 VGC 2009

E4 Generation 4 VGC 2009 Live Bracket
The Singles tournament will officially start next Tuesday, September 3, 2024 but feel free to start organizing your matches now. VGC players please hold off for now.
For VGC 2009, please note that before anyone plays their matches I need you to post your team of 6 here first since we are playing with open team sheet and using one team throughout the entire tournament. @silversnorlax204 can walk you through how to do that on Showdown along with any other VGC inquiries (he will be taking the wheel for running the VGC side of things).
Lmao don’t worry, I’ve probably rusted up like my dad’s 40 year-old car sitting in our backyard.
I actually sat and observed ddk randomize the brackets and once he started to put them together, we realized just how horrible you’re opening bracket was lol.
Sorry for all the incoming questions. My first time doing the VGC tournament.
I have some clarifications specific to the format and teambuilding which I thought I will ask here for others who may have the same questions:
As I understood and was clarified by few others that for VGC doubles, the open team sheet mean we declare the 6 Pokemon with moveset, and items only. Then in game we pick 4 that we would like to play with and battle 2 v 2. I think this understanding is correct yes?
I just checked the team builder for Pokemon Showdown and for doubles my menu goes only till Gen 6 Doubles OU under “Past Gen OU”. I don’t think it shows me Gen 4 Doubles OU option. Even in the search bar, it only gives me options for Random Battle and OU which I am assuming will be singles. What am I supposed to do, to team build for doubles?
Thanks for the help with my questions.
Cheers!
