I might do a small print run because there’s a few other folks who have expressed interest too!
My entry for original creation “MetAAHHHHpod”
Sorry i did the wrong dimension sizing. I will update the child like style next time.
Amazing entries by everyone so far! Like always, it looks like it’ll be difficult to pick the top three.
Here are my entries:
Recreation: Pokemon Trading Card Game: Grand Tournament
Recreated Erika’s Jumpluff and Lt. Surge’s Raichu from the VS Series (below) in 8-bit pixel art to reimagine them as if the VS Series was included in a second sequel in the Pokemon Trading Card Game series.
If interested, you can watch this great video about the great effort and technicality behind the pixel art of the original game that served as guidance and inspiration for this piece.
3D Virtual: Unexpected Visitors
Most of this composition was done using sprites from various Pokemon games (e.g. Pokemon Ranger, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, and mainline games).
I played so much of the Pokémon Trading Card Game for Gameboy as a kid, your recreation looks perfect! The conversion from a physical card to pixel art really matches with what you would expect from the game. Brings back a lot of memories
@veks This is so great. The expression is classic.
@bbobrob As always you bring a unique take of some classic art. The recreation is amazing. I love venomoth gets some love in your 3D piece.
@ayoveer - I love your submissions. The Poliwag art looks so good, specially the colour gradient on the water. The post-it Slowpoke really captures the blankness of the original. Really awesome work. Thanks for sharing your work.
@decoypalmette - Your submissions is so beautiful. I zoomed in and the attention to detail like the patterns on the sky and the rooftop and so well done. I really enjoyed this piece. So very amazing. I am a sucker for good lore! Thanks for sharing.
@niece - I love your take on Ariados, such an underrated Pokemon. The level of detail is simply amazing in your artwork and looks painstakingly done. For a noob as me, it looks like a mix of 3D and traditional paper art. Also a very fine Easter egg . Thank you for sharing a very unique art style. I loved it.
@veks - I think your artwork is brilliant because the eyes give away how sinister it is. It gives me the ’ I am not trapped in with you, you are trapped in with me’ vibes. The colour scheme is also great. Thanks for sharing.
@bbobrob - Your work is fantastic as always. I have always come to see you as an expert with fine crochet skills, so your attention to detail is very evident in the pixel artwork. I absolutely love the Chinchou art and really great take on the physical traits of the Pokemon. I hope Chinchou enjoys the company and does not find it annoying. Thanks for sharing them both.
Awesome submissions so far. Really looking forward for the rest.
Cheers!
Thank you for your kind words @mrbubbles !
My 3D Virtual entry ‘Into the Wonderball’
All models except the doughnut (my Blender learning project), downloaded, from The Model Resource (Pokémon XY, Sun and Moon, Unite). Models adjusted, lighted and posed in Blender. The scene was created in Procreate.
I spy with my little eyes, blender guru’s YouTube donut. Solid tutorial series!
Took two weeks plus to make that luscious creation!
Here’s my Child Category submission!
Recycled Rowlet
Recycled Rowlet was made by cutting up unused energies and then arranging those cut pieces. Two special requirements were that: 1) I could not move a piece once it was on the paper canvas, and 2) no adhesives or weights of any kind could be used to restrict the movement of laid pieces. This became difficult as the project progressed, as very slight movements would disturb other pieces that contacted each other. I hope you like it!
Thank you for the positive comments so far!
@pikachutcg I don’t have a great memory, so I don’t remember much of what I was doing or what I felt during my childhood, but I do remember enjoying this game a ton. Many years later, I remember being very excited after discovering the sequel too! It’s a bit of a shame that the series was stopped after just two games, but we can imagine a world where it may have continued.
Your daughter’s submissions are also amazing, and I’m happy she had the courage to tackle the contest and show off her work! The colors for the Eevee are especially great, and the cosmos holo of her art actually looks like a stellar card The Pikachu looks especially great for a first attempt ever at drawing pokemon!
@niece The Ariados is really stunning. When you posted it, I couldn’t stop admiring how great the webbing looks. The mix of colors and the detail make it all seem so natural and look seamless. The composition/depth of the piece is great too, really makes you feel lost in Ariados’ trap! (Ariados is also a pokemon with a great design, and I’m happy to see it get some attention).
The “Lillie in Wonderland” piece is also amazing. That Mr. Mime is looking awfully dapper. When you said you would try to branch out and learn something new for 3D visual, I also downloaded Blender, thinking I might try the same composition for the Chinchou piece but with 3D models. I opened it for just a bit and very quickly decided I likely do not have the time to figure it out Maybe for a future contest!
@mrbubbles The Chinchou will possibly make some new friends!
The juxtaposition of the mood of the piece and the lore behind Drifloon/Drifblim (and lore provided by you) is just great and really enhances the piece (or the horror of the piece!). The coloring is also well done and really drills down the cheery mood. The second Drifloon especially makes me smile, as it looks like it’s very ecstatic but also possibly having some trouble keeping the girl afloat!
I plan to comment on every piece once the contest is over, but thought I’d comment a bit in kind for those that did so for my submissions already. Very much looking forward to the remaining submissions!
Thank you @bbobrob . I am eager to share my processes and thoughts after the contest. I did the same thing with Blender last year! This year I found some excellent help I want to share.
@DYL this is fantastic! How creative. I love the color order and direction gives me the feeling of the old kaleidescope. You turn and turn them Boom! Something cool. Great work
Thank you so much, niece! I don’t think I’ll ever see energies the same way again. Fun fact, Rowlet’s pupils are the right white circular highlights on the bottom side of Pokeballs. Now when I examine cards for wear on the back, I’ll see Rowlet pupils staring back at me.
Child: “Sir, there’s a bug on my Southern Islands pizza”
Understandably Kadabra is a bit annoyed, but chef Psyduck is going to fix the issue.
“Sing me up!”
Something like LumaPrints could make it super easy for you if wanted
