I wonder what the overlap might be. I imagine there must be some
Also, is it allowable to post a WTT thread with comics for cards?
I have some high end comics I’d like to move for some cards.

It’s allowable I just don’t know if there is a ton of overlap. It’s probably easier to just sell and use the funds for the card you want, but there is no harm in trying!
yeah I figured that was the case, but was hoping to geek out with others about trading.
I’ll post and see what comes of it
I stopped following the stories deeply in the mid 90s. Too convoluted. Some stories ive caught up on are good for a while, some were a let down. I grab some here and there, and especially from artists i like. I should look into more 90s amazing spiderman key covers.
But what counts as a high end comic now? Do they have to be graded?
Used to be obsessed with Spiderman in my younger years and bought all sorts of issues like ASM #300, Spectacular SM #1, etc. Lost interest in it all once I got closer to 30 as did most of the guys in my area. Nowadays I rarely see any real overlap in cards and comics, but that’s probably mostly because I’m always in dedicated card shops, cons, or tournaments lol
I guess my definition of a high end comic was merely geared towards value. Graded or ungraded.
In this case I was talking about a Hulk 1. First appearance of Hulk.
it’s somewhat surprising to me there isn’t a ton of overlap.
Where’s “up here” exactly?
Agreed. Comic cards of the early 90s were what lead straight to pokemon once that came out. But everyones got superhero fatigue from movies and modern comics have done the same as sports cards (probably first though) with lots of variant covers and printings, exclusives, and pushed just for mint condition values.
The comic industry is still massive though and has lots of interest.
I’ve always been a big manga enjoyer, more so than western comics. Though I am very familiar with super hero content, as my uncle is a fanatic.
I also love collecting the original Bionicle comics.
Good subject, but wouldn’t think there was a huge interconnectedness here. Old school (golden and silver age) comics are cool. Trouble with graded high end comics is that there isn’t any tactile reward, being unable to touch or open the covers. Just sealed slabs of plastic with the front and rear cover to admire. Seems pointless… just my opinion tho.
I understand the comic market in some countries is dropping away, particularly from graded/ sealed.
I think it’s really no different than encapsulating some of our favorite cards. We can’t play with them the way they were intended to be played with while graded.
And yes agreed about the comics market losing some steam, but I’m still slightly surprised there isn’t a larger overlap in that Venn diagram
I snagged a couple golden age comics locally for cheap and now I want to restore them, it’s very satisfying. Pure enjoyment.
I have a small collection of some Batman comics from the 90s??, not really sure. If I remember ill take a picture. Batman is the only superhero I really connect with (I am secretly a Billionaire orphan who beats up people), so thats what I occasionally collect
This is some from my stash of Predator comics. I do not actively collect but try to pick up if I come across at some event or comic con. My only rule is not to buy anything new.
Cheers!
Out of all the main/popular comic series & stories, I am most familair with Batman and to an extent Spider-Man. Batman is definitely my favourite overall and I enjoy his character and the other story elements a lot. I’ve looked at some of the graded comics at times as I enjoy Greg Horn’s artwork and he’s done quite a few covers on more modern releases over the past 20 years. I had a chance to pick these up for $100ish a few years back, and now they’re like $1000+ or more it seems:
Unfortuantely the whole thing was out of my ‘comfort zone’. I had no real idea how to really value these things, other than it had signatures and other unique features. My focus back then was solely on Pokemon, so I skipped it. In addition, I was worried I would end up collecting something that I didn’t really value as much as Pokemon (or other collectibles) to begin with since I basically just thought they looked cool to me.
In hindsight, it was a missed opportunity, but all the Pokemon cards I collected back then have also gone up a lot so it worked out either way.
If anyone here has any insight or sources on how to value comics or ‘what to look for’, I’m still always interested in learning new things, so feel free to share ![]()
My nostalgia is overloaded. Now I’ll have to explore my mothers attic on Christmas so thanks for that ![]()
These are some Golden/Silver age grails that I found and want to restore to store them properly
I’m also trying to gather some 90’s vibe ones from my childhood memories
As a kid I never had or held a comic book, but when I first bought one in 2019 I felt in love with them and immediately started devouring information about golden and silver age comic books. Now I try to decorate my home with them, as I don’t have a tcg display
Awesome collection and displays! They look fantastic displayed that way
I too am a big sucker for Golden and Silver age books. Just something about them
I’ll have to find some photos to send
I love the those frames! Very clean and cool display ![]()
Welp @mosstastic @mrbubbles no luck in finding the old comic book collection but I did find a predator sketch my late father did for my older brother back in the day. Now I’m determined. New comic book collector incoming
