At this point my collection is easily six figures, so yes I do. Although I have some cards for sentimental reasons that I would never sell and don’t include those.
Yeah, but I only really keep track of the values of a handful of cards, since once the cards in my collection I don’t really care what it’s worth. However, I don’t consider it part of it on paper
The government wants to tax it when you buy it, sell it and bequeath it—as many times over it can for the same item, mind you— strongly suggesting your cards EXIST and should count;
The home owner’s insurers will tell you they are not covered or included as protected and therefore have no value and DO NOT EXIST and should not count.
As collateral, financial institutions will laugh at you (as Charlie mentioned), suggesting they have no value and may as well NOT EXIST and does not count.
That hot babe at the club will also laugh at you as long as that step between ownership and liquidation of said cards remains intact, and so does NOT EXIST and does not count.
Seems the only one that wants to see my cards as part of my net worth is the same one who won’t loan me money, insure my assets, or get me laid, so screw you Uncle Sam—does not count.
Personally I would find it weird and not really worth it to add a 5-figure collection to my net worth. Plus the only card bringing up my collection value I’ll never sell. So even if logan paul himself starts hyping it to 6 figures I will never see a return or a profit on that card lol.
But if your collection is worth 6 figures+ and you plan to liquidate one day you should surely add it to your personal net worth.
I don’t. It would be interesting to have a poll on approximate current value of their Pokémon card collection of efour members.
That would be equally interesting and humbling
Yea I do though I rarely look up my collection so I never really know my net worth but hey since 90% of my worth is in pokemon I have to or I’ll think myself as a poor person lol
The thought crosses my mind from time to time. Been collecting since 1998 and it’s only been in the last few years where I’ll take the time to look up some of my cards, but I don’t keep track of it. I have a small and ungraded collection so until the day that it starts reaching crazy numbers, I don’t really have any reason to consider it part of my net worth. Maybe when my collection is worth more than my student loan debt would I consider it.
I can only speak for myself, but whenever I reduce my collection to monetary value, it takes away some of the joy of why I collect. All I want to do in the end is see how far I can complete a childhood dream.
I guess in some fashion I do since it has value. In the end though if everything crashed I’d still go about my day the same way as I have been for years and focus on other goals in life.
My wife and I bought a home last summer so I started recently tracking our net worth out of pure curiosity. I have my collection included, partially because I want to document it so that if something were to happen to me, my wife would know not to sell everything on FB marketplace for $100. It’ll be interesting to see how it fluctuates and grows as the years pass by.
Shouldn’t a collection be part of your net worth by default? Like, whether you are planning to sell or not should be irrelevant to this question.
No, I consider it as a hobby. My stonks yes.
Can vouch. Used to have a Tercel we used exclusively for transporting moldy bread and leftovers to our chickens and pig. Terrible car, but durable. You can drive it right into a tree with minimal damage.
I don’t consider it a part of my net worth, I consider it more like an emergency fund.
90s toyota durability and reliability is second to none
I consider my collection part of my net worth. I have 300k worth of cards give or take. I spend WAY too much money on building my collection. I have more money in cards then I do cash or any other asset. If a emergency came up I’d sell a few. Or simply not buy any cards that paycheck.
its more of a hobby the collecting side of it. I also are going to start selling but that will be mainly to buy more.
I don’t. I think it would be cringe if I did because I don’t own cards that are worth thousands. For a fact I don’t even know what my net worth is and I don’t know what my collection is worth.
Idk I get weirded out when talking about net worth overall.
I consider the following part of my Net worth, collecting wise, and other -
- My house
- Booster boxes, High end Slabs,
- Stocks I do own
- Cars I own (Not your average depreciating vehicle)
I do not consider loose packs, raw cards, other odds and ends, car parts, ect as part of my net.
I do for graded and to-be graded items (inventory). Dent or raw cards which come from Japan I just leave them in boxes and binders, I don’t even know how to proceed with valuation for those.
