Hi, for a while I’ve been working on my set of all Japanese and English cyndaquils, but there are 2 cards that still elude me, and if you’re familiar with a set like this, you probably know what I’m going to say.
I’m still on the hunt for the 2 e-starter deck unlimited cards. The only ones I’ve actually seen for sale as of recent were upwards of £600. I also check eBay, Cardmarket and Mercari daily, and have reminders on but at this point I’m not even sure what to do.
I was wondering if there are other marketplaces I could try and look at? Or if it is even still worth going for them if they always over £600 each. If anyone has these cards, I would love to hear your story of where you got them and if you have any advice.
Both are a “hurry up and wait” situation. Hurry up to get the money required to purchase them at whatever asking price, and wait endlessly for them to show up. You’re in a good position if they are already available to purchase because, often times, there are none on the market.
It’s probably worth paying the £600 each to cross it off the list. Most Japanese sellers know that they’re worth money these days.
If only these were unlimited. I would go for them before it is too late. I think they are ultra niche still and relatively cheap compared to other higher pop items. Market has little logic though. These decks cost $2-5k sealed and the chase pulls are dirt cheap.
I’m waiting for the dreaded Akabane dump where the complete unlimited e-Starter deck and unlimited Expedition set are advertised mysteriously on IG, graded at CGC, and sent to Heritage or Goldin for auction.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been using Mercari for 6 years+ and I’ve never seen the #14 unlimited version. I do think the #13 is more common than people make it out to be (along with some of the other unlimited e1 cards)
I haven’t been using mercari for too long so not too familiar with it. I just search manually but I’ll work on setting up an account with alerts
Yeah this seems to be the common consensus, 13 is common(ish) while 14 has never been seen. Although in another comment, a user posted the promotional poster and it does exist apparently
I was also talking to someone on reddit who collects the whole evolution line, and they completely left out 14 unlimited assuming it just wasn’t a real thing too
Just to clarify what Dyl posted, that the majority of promotional material you’ll find is almost always printed in unlimited.
That isn’t to say it was ever released though however, I suppose it’s also true that we can’t explicitly state that it doesn’t exist.
Yeah this is the plan for now. I’ve set up a buyee account and will try and get a #13 for a decent price. And once I hit 85/86 cards I’ll assume it’s as complete as it’s ever going to get
