Cryptocurrency Discussion Thread

It’s tiresome just observing top-tier knowledge and experience going to waste on eyes and ears that will remain shut regardless. It’s an interesting examination of human psychology though, because you see the same reaction patterns regardless of what the asset is. It could be crypto, it could be Pokemon cards or it could be seashells. If there exists an 80th percentile who haven’t a blind clue what they’re doing when buying, selling, investing or even just talking about something, it will overwhelmingly steer the mainstream narrative surrounding that asset. It doesn’t matter what the fundamentals are or what the purpose of the asset is; if it’s volatile and risky simply because of how it’s being transacted (i.e. interfaced with the broken system it would serve best to replace), it will only be viewed that way.

Sadly, we also often see a misguided conflation of the ways in which it’s used with it being a fundamentally bad or a function-less asset. When it continues to exist in a comfortable era where the benefits of its function still largely go unrealised by the majority, it’s understandable to see these reactions. But, it’s also disappointing because it’s a reminder that we’re in a ‘post-fact’ world now. It’s not enough to guide to the facts; they have to be simultaneously entertaining, humorous or even massaging to the ego, and crucially they have to fit a mainstream narrative. It’s like TDS turned ‘Crypto Derangement Syndrome’. These days perception is everything and truth is diminished. And, I guess you could rightly argue that that’s always been a key part of what’s made markets evolve, but the problem remains that it’s a such a childish and blatantly misinformed way of analysing and even participating in markets, that it almost makes you physically cringe when you observe it. I’m sure that if and when the cyclical grip of the crypto/alt asset bear market tightens, we’ll see an even larger cascade of tiring uneducated reddit-style sneering derisiveness. Let them eat cake.

There is so much inverse logic in this sentence alone it’s almost exasperating. I don’t have the energy to correct this, but I’d highly recommend reading the book Broken Money by Lyn Alden.

As 2025 has frequently proven throughout its course, and of which you are a product, some responses when they add nothing but sneering rhetoric (and self-admitted rhetoric at that) legitimately deserve nothing more than exasperated condescension. I mean, it gets to the point where you read what someone’s writing and think; am I just being subtly trolled?

Your rhetoric has been addressed already within the existing thread. Wilful ignorance cannot be controlled nor does it deserve imparted wisdom.

well those other assets everyone knows they are speculative and crypto is also speculative but is just masquerading as a “currency”

the facts are the bitcoin bros will try to convince the noobs that its going to a million bux a coin because “its gonna replace the US dollar“ so they can dump their bags on them  but its only real use as a currency is to buy drugs, commit tax fraud, and money launder

the only other use ive heard for it is “the ppl in developing worlds couldve bought it to avoid financial catastrophe after their local currency imploded“… ok lets say thats true… they coulda also bought any stocks, bonds, any other assets and then gotten a real currency like usd instead

the US dollar will never devalue by any meaningful level at least within our lifetimes… if thats the bet the crypto bros are making then its no wonder everyone else is skeptical… and even if it does devalue which has technically happened since nov 2024 other currencies will devalue even more  so it really doesnt matter

for it to actually devalue the US would have to lose its superpower status lolz

Another 50 years (of my life) that have been like the last few for the US and I wouldn’t be surprised if it loses some of its supremacy. I strongly believe other countries should be strengthening ties if the politicos in the US really want nothing to do with the world stage (eg pulling out of nato). I personally have no desire to go the states under the current regime, and refused to have a layover there during my Xmas flights. Who knows what reason they’ll come up with to detain foreigners.

My portfolio begs to differ

May the xrp flipping btc (again) commence

Anyone here going to talk about the correlation of Epstein Files & Bitcoin? Where 3/5 of the main Bitcoin developers were being paid on salary by Epstein?

Or just going to sideline it?

I’m here for it.

AND they pushed the powers that be to bring the lawsuit vs ripple/xrp as they saw it as a threat.

Cant make it up!

The faster BTC rolls over the better. Literally has zero use.

It has at least 1 more usecase than BTC

So, 1.

Here we go

Depends, there is only 1 real “the office” and it is the og UK version.

USA version is fine, but it didnt make me wince with awkwardness. So it’s never the real “office.

Regarding your analogy: Some Crypto has a function and use case, some doesnt. Fiat will always be around, but crypto will also grow.

Doesnt have to be one or the other.

BTC is a ponzi though and Microstrategy is the next black swan (or maybe it is Epstein, or both!).

fact is fiat can be printed into oblivion and ppl will still want it in the end because you can actually use it in everyday life

“yeah, you can buy this 500k lamborghini and pay using only bitcoins… but you will have to pay a 5% administrative fee because i dont want that garbage and im gonna convert it back into usd immediately”

I think Bitcoin has become bigger than just where it came from, but I do believe it is important to mention and understand the original creator and bigger players in the game that we are unaware of…

@teraz hey mate fwiw I enjoy reading your posts on bitcoin! I don’t own any or have any other skin in the game but you make plenty of valid points. My take on what you have written is that it comes across as more technical and philosophical which is interesting and fundamentally helpful to people with less knowledge on the subject. You’re certainly not in the same boat as the bros who are just trying to hype and dump. I appreciate anyone who can stay level and polite during controversial discussions

Others who have posted here also have good reason to be skeptical. Bitcoin definitely has a strong speculative component and people can get burned if they aren’t careful. However that is precisely why we shouldn’t be discouraging people who want to offer well constructed arguments in bitcoin’s favour (or against) regarding utility etc. People should be able to understand both sides of the argument and then make an informed decision for themselves about whether they should invest or steer clear
