CONFIRMED: 2020 was a bubble

I totally agree and I think this is very important to stress. I really don’t think the whole market can be called a bubble when much of it was driven by organic demand and never really “crashed”. Sure, wannabe investors drove up prices, but at the end of the day only products with no organic demand actually crashed (like junk slabs) – and that much was obvious to begin with.

Like base set was selling like crazy and prices shot up. Same although basically every modern charizard. Like the hidden fates 10k shiny zard

Yeah, it definitely was a “base set unlimited PSA 5 bubble”, amongst other things.

As for the Charizards, that certainly had bubbly qualities, but I’m sure a major factor was also that so many better looking cards were released when the Alt Arts were introduced and people realized that generic 5ban art #2598293 in 3 color variants wasn’t actually that cool of a card. I still remember VMAX cards selling for pretty decent money when the first SwSh sets were released because they were still new. That was before the big hype began. They didn’t get any more common, but people stopped caring about them because they are as boring and uninspired as can get.

You can see where Japanese begins to surpass English in that graph
