Childhood binders, do you still got yours?

This is a special thread! I mentioned earlier how I mixed in my binders, but I did find my extra childhood cards. Prepare to witness top level storage:

oh my gosh that’s adorable. you need to grade that one card you or one of your mates drew on. that’s awesome!

and what’s a binder again? i hear there’s a gang or something connected to them–whatever they are.

I still have it. Some cards ended up in my actual collection (and wait for replacement), others stay where they are (in the old binder, in all their poor glory) cause I don’t collect those sets nowadays but still… nostalgia hits me when I look at them

I know this is an old-ish topic, but I thought I’d add mine, as Scott mentioned it in the last QnA, kids making their own binder covers and things today, is just like we did before. I made my own folder first, then later made these binder covers and still use them for my random non-valuable stuff. Neat.

I had one of those old five star zipper binders and not enough 9-pocket pages. I had some loose energy cards in the binder, and some duplicate cards stuffed into single pockets. I was definitely not very careful with my cards

When I found my old collection, I moved them all to penny sleeves and top loaders and have kept them in a box. Nothing crazy in my old collection, lots of non-holo rares, unlimited base set/fossil/jungle. I would often trade with my classmates and friends, and many times, I’d do cross-trades with other tcgs, like star wars, dragonball z, mtg, and several others. Those were definitely good times…

Thanks! I was once into drawing and painting. My dad was an illustrator, so he tried to get me into visual art… Never felt quite ‘me’, but I’m glad I kept some work!

Mine tried. They did dump most of my old gaming packaging and nostalgia…
My pogz too.

This is a great binder, but now we need to know what’s inside of it

I still have my original binder with base unlimited, 1st ed jungle, and fossil, but I’ve since swapped the cards into a modern side loading one without rings just for better protection. It was so satisfying to complete those sets back then.

You got it! Check out some of this heat :fire:

For the past 25 years it contained Base, Jungle, Fossil & an assortment of random Japanese cards. Organized by typing. All un-sleeved of course. Every double was also stacked into the same binder slot :sunglasses:.

They’ve since been sleeved and transferred to a new binder & I’ve repurposed the OG for Pokemon creations my nephews and nieces make for me.

Hoping to continue adding to it for at least another 25 years

Sure do, the office binder (repurposed to house early WOTC sets in sequence from 1st edition base, to jungle and fossil when released and pulled from packs, up to some Neo) I found in the recycling bin while helping my parents with commercial janitorial service as a kid. And yes, my storage situation is questionable :face_with_raised_eyebrow: but it is what it is.

This is hands down the best binder origin story I’ve ever heard :joy:. Still maintaining it today with desiccant and all :fist: :ok_hand:

Unfortunately like others here my childhood binders got all mixed up with newer purchases when I came back to the hobby as an adult.

However, there are certain special cards I know for certain date back to my childhood.

Base Zard, 1st Ed Error Ivy Pikachu, Prerelease Clefable, and Skyridge Crystal Ho-oh to name a few.

I got those 100% definitely childhood cards PSA slabbed and I keep them separate from the rest of my cards.
