Cards with the same “Pokemon” art but different background art

I wanted to compile a list of cards where the actual artwork of the Pokemon species is identical but the background art is different as part of a separate release. Here are some examples - please add if you can think of any other! Thank you!

Pikachu Vending vs Intro Pack

Surfing Pikachu standard vs Mt Fuji

Mewtwo vending/cd vs promo (bonus for being flipped art)

There must be tons of Sugimori art with different backgrounds but not sure if you are seeking that

That’s exactly what I’m seeking! There are fewer than you’d think! Thanks.

Also preemptively stating I am not looking for cards with different backgrounds but same release, such as the Pichu art contest cards

Not sure if you would count it but Rocket’s Moltres and the TMB Moltres phone card fit this category.

Good one!

Rocket’s Moltres vs test print

The test print legendary birds are also each included on the grand party card

Thanks, but let’s stick to the main TCG (otherwise there are too many Sugimori ones to count )

Upon looking these cards up, I noticed its actually the same background. But looks different cuz of different holo pattern so good enough for me :3

If Sugimori art is allowed.. Marshtomp from EX Ruby & Sapphire and Celestial Storm.

Should we exclude Sugimori unless it’s a rotational shift, like the Pikachu posted above, or a new card like this? I’m going through his list of illustrations and there are more than I realized - some only a few years apart, which is confusing, maybe there wasn’t a budget for new card arts.

Great find with Pikachu

And a third one! Fourth if you include the green background version

Also adding flying pikachu as you only mentioned surfing pikachu in your first post

Egregiously lazy :skull: why even print the second one?

This is an interesting one because it looks like modified an original art to the newer digital flat design

Also funny how close some of the stock arts are from each others

The digitization / modernization process does not translate well imo. You can really tell that the budget for original art increased around 2020.
