I can vouch for the Dragon Shield perfect fit sealable. It’s a firm sleeve and you get protection on all 4 edges.
I use them for any big ticket textured card that I have for my binders. Standard Dragon Shield perfect fits for textured cards and then standard penny sleeves for holos/reverse holos.
I originally used to use KMC perfect fits for the inner sleeve and Dragon Shield mattes for the outer sleeve. It worked well but last year I decided to switch to just one penny sleeve.
Having to take out hundreds of cards from perfect sleeves was not easy. Half of them came out perfectly fine, the other half needed extra pressure because the back and the front would get “stuck” to the card after being in a binder for years. Then there were a handful that were so stuck I had to cut the sleeve with scissors just to relieve the pressure against the card. I really thought a lot of my cards were going to get scratched but from what I could tell, they all seemed fine in the end.
I’m not going back to double sleeving anytime soon. I’m definitely interested in finding better quality penny sleeves. Right now I use Ultra Pro Premium. Premium is slightly thicker and slightly smaller than the regular Ultra Pros. Ultra Pro also has three varieties of toploaders too.
For those that use the kmc perfect fit sleeves, how have you not sometimes damaged one of the corners when inserting them in? I have tried them before and on occasion I would ding the one corner of the card which caused whitening. This is why I choose not to double sleeve. I guess there is a true technique for inserting a card into a perfect fit?
I’ve been using the Vault X exact fit sleeves and their penny sleeves while I move my collection to nicer binders. I love that their exact fits aren’t super snug but feel premium. I can snap some photos when I get home on lunch if anyone wants to see them
I spent the better part of the week going down a rabbit hole trying to find the best sleeve that was best for me. I looked at everyone’s suggestions and YouTube links and I sincerely appreciate the response. It’s nice to see why collectors use specific sleeves over the other.
I ended up picking:
Dragon Shield Black Matte:
I initially created this thread because my gf recently got into Lorcana TCG and asked me which sleeves I used and why. When I explained I initially used just your standard penny sleeves, she looked at my JP binder that’s filled with Eevee Heroes, Autographs and other expensive cards and noticed that most cards had random sleeves and it wasn’t cohesive, thus, creating a thread and researching led me to these:
We took our binders and ended up staying five hours at a local LCG yesterday and I can’t express how relaxing and fun it was re-sleeving. I ended up using three and a half boxes worth
• They’re sturdy. They hold the cards well and I genuinely feel like they’re protected
• They feel premium. Spending thousands of dollars year round, I want it protected what I feel is the best quality. Are they expensive? Sure, I want all cards in the binder to match whether they are Espeon VMAX from the special box set, or Jigglypuff Reverse from 151.
They’re all equally important. Cost is out the window when it comes to cards that mean something to you. and want the binder to have a cohesive design. This is why we collect. We all do things our own way.
