Gaww the trainer mag promos are so awesome!!! I really love the Bellsprout cameo, something about Baba’s art really takes me to that special fantasy realm. Slowbro heads are blessed!
And congrats on the all mighty VS set
Just came on to browse for a moment while sipping my afternoon tea and then I pulled back the curtain to find all of this! Woah! Now this is what we call soul.
@muk, I feel this way too now. Hah! But yeah there’s so much room for great conceptual stuff like that that is being missed on by TPC. There is some great stuff, don’t get me wrong, but they are only like 30-50% capacity compared to what could be. But yeah just searching every damn day for this last card… hopefully I can get it by 2022!
I knew this one in particular would be a great share for you, @kromaticlanturn!
@mrbubbles, thanks for the kind words. It is comments like that that really motivate to share proud collection goals being completed, so thank you!
@swirlord, it’s contagious, what can I say! I have picked up too many collection goals since joining E4.
Thank you, @imakunizauntie! I know, only the Slowbro got the great cameo! (That’s how you know it is the most favored, of course).
I beat you to VS, you beat me to T promos! So nice to see those cards altogether in one spot! I love that you included the movie set vs promos as well! Very comprehensive photo shoot.
Also, props for the Imakuni update haha! Best card has been included to the set!
For a 20 year old set, I’d say not bad. The main heavy hitter is the karens umbreon at give or take a couple hundred depending on your condition raw but other than that nearly every card including holos are under 100 nm. Definitely very doable set over time
I have obtained my final old back trainer, to complete that era (trainer wise) forever! This of course does not include trophies and the like. I’ve already made it clear I love, love, love the trainers. Here is one of the best mini sets. I can’t get enough of these Stadium cards! What a beautiful set. Extraordinary detail. Reminds me of Pokemon Stadium for sure! The uniformity makes for one of the most wonderful trainer pages ever.
I also wanted to share some exceptional trainers that, to me, highlight the beauty of them all in the TCG. I really wanted to showcase all the Kinebuchi’s, hell, all the original trainers from the first several sets. But I had to hold back, as that would be… excessive. Excessive beyond my normal excessiveness. I keep all of them in my Team Rocket binder, so they start at the end of the set. The Rocket trainers are legitimately the best. This has been said, but it doesn’t get old. My Lawwd look at these cards.
And since I am particularly emphasizing the stadiums, that page ending with some great Rocket themed ones, here are some more. My layout is weird, I was organizing all my trainer sections by artist, so there’s a few oddballs
If you’ll forgive this really long indulgent collection post… To end on a fun note, in preparation for art contest work, I got around to finishing my trinity. The holy trinity!
Awwwww hell yeah! These look soo good together! Huge congrats on finally finding the last missing JPN old back! Kinebuchi and Kizuki especially had such a run in the old schhool trainers. Thanks for sharing, brotha
The fact these are always the last in the set/binder collection, plus the obvious childhood hatred of pulling the rare trainer instead of the holo, gives a kind of subconscious bias towards these being less appreciated. But seeing them all together and as the focus of a collection brings out something different in them. Gives them their own chance to shine! I really like the Pokémon breeder fields. That is stunning art!
Side note, I really wish they had done more holo trainers. There are some arts that would have done amazingly as foils and made trainers a little less under-appreciated.
Also, nothing wrong with going a little long, especially if it involves slowpoke.
So awesome…so many friggin’ good trainers from the old days, man. I would love to get a huge, framed artwork of Recall and Imposter Oak’s Revenge for my game room walls. As always, fantastic and inspiring stuff, brotha! Thanks so much for sharing!
Kizuki might just have to take the cake overall, @muk. Nightly Garbage Run, Goop Gas Attack, Comp Error, Tickling Machine, and of course, as kromatic pointed out… the mastermind behind these might just have to have the highest award of the era. But god I love them all. It doesn’t hurt that he cameo’s my two favorite Pokemon back to back . It always seems to work out that way, so I feel spoiled looking at it in retrospect.
You know what is funny, @pigeonsyndicate? I actually loved hitting some of the trainer rares. I know, I know, but I always really loved these cards. It’s why I love talking about them. People are always talking about cards or Mon’s that don’t get enough love, but outside of the trophy cards, these really almost never get acknowledged, except in passing, or with exceptional ones. Treated just like set filler (in collecting perspective, not playing, for those who play), and that is unfortunate. They are some of my favorite cards to put together and tackle on the goal list. Breeder Fields gets lots of love though, and I am in on that! Easily Sugi’s top caliber work. What a piece.
But I particularly want to voice my wholehearted agreement on your last note about the lack of holos. They really missed out on that. Even the simpler ones, that for me, captivate that gym era, for example, that made it in holo, are some of my favorite cards and are being slabbed for the collection–among several other trainers, in fact. That is how much I love the Gym Leader Trainers. So imagine how great some of those other Rocket ones, or the Neo era ones would have been as holos! Completely agreed man. Yes, yes.
@kromaticlanturn, dude! Recall is a masterpiece. Glad you appreciate that as much as I do. The concept was good enough alone that it could have been any Mon. But that it is the Slow, yeah, done deal. A trophy in of itself! Vastly brilliant!
Thanks for the mutual love for the Trainers, and stopping by again and again guys!
I’m already late to the party but i really love seeing the T-promos all together! I do love them but i can’t find an acceptable reason for myself to purchase all of them, if they were a bit cheaper i could surpass my collection limits but now i can at most only dream of the day i might stretch and add the legendary birds in my small sub collection of them but that’s where this place is so precious, you can almost always find the cards you can’t get in someone else’s collection and admire them there!
Well said, @joponnes! We are in agreement there. I am so glad to be able to appreciate and view these great collection threads out here. Not only the cards, but plus one for archival structure, style, and presentation. I mean, look at yours for example , beautiful!
I do wish the T-Promos were a little cheaper. It was killer and required saving a great deal over time. I exhausted much of my sell to pay strats over 2021. There’s so many great promos out there that have that desired exclusive artwork but are just too, too much. Of course it feels that much better!
Not sure how I missed that stadiums and Slowpoke line post; all of those trainers look so good together! Love all the trainers from the Gym sets side by side. Then obvs the Lucky Stadiums and the Gym stadiums looking great.
@brendantheclayboy thanks pal, really appreciate it. They all look so good as a set and i’m glad my stadium collection could hype up some of these cards for you! Inspires me to update my collection thread, which I’ve not done in way too long despite having come cool updates. Tomorrow!
I love seeing them in binder pages too. The full pages look soo good; i’d love to display my stadiums in a binder, but can’t really as they’re always releasing new variants and anything but organising them loose is such a pain haha.
Congrats on all the pick ups and the great update. Also that Slowpoke rug is insane.
Right on! Always like to see a @dizzylochs collection addition. I will anticipate it eagerly.
I hear ya on the constant reorganization. I do not do that very often. Tedious and time consuming. I try and hoard a cohesive pile, then binder all together when I achieve a complete goal. Mostly…
