Ludkins collectables Illustrator is the exact same copy that was posted by jsfpiloul AKA the french bitch on instagram a while ago. Weirdly the card was already authenticated but with a different cert numbert. A bit confusing, why would someone re-authenticate the same card again?.. compare the photo from ludkins and jsfpiloul om insta, it‘s the same copy
But if you were to resell surely authentic won’t receive as much of a premium as a grade with a number ? Or can authentic cards still obtain high prices
I feel like as mentioned above, it’d really depend on the card. With how demand has grown for 1st base set holos, I can’t imagine ever sending one in these days and not asking for a grade
IMO it’s a bit silly to pay for a card to be only authenticated when paying to get it authenticated and graded costs the same, if it’s for a personal collection and that’s your preference I understand, but if your intention is to sell the card, I view it as kind of shady to just get it authenticated
A great example is the trophy khan I had authenticated. Extremely valuable/rare item, and it had a very subtle corner crease. I didn’t feel comfortable grading it, as there would be a strong chance psa would miss the crease. Ironically another “business” is in a similar position with the exact card and they are re-grading until PSA misses the damage.
There are plenty of instances when authentication only makes sense. As long as no one is making a condition claim, there isn’t anything inherently shady.
To be completely honest, it doesn’t matter as you haven’t made a case for why its shady. There is nothing inherently shady about authenticating a card. Your bias is your bias, not a universal truth .
I think personally, this is a classic case of the owner wanting to focus to be on the card, not the grade. Not speaking for them, that is just my impression from what I’d do.
It’s now preserved and will remain that way essentially forever.
Authenticating a high production card might not make sense, but it’s the very rare items where it doesn’t really matter, because the base value of the item is so high already.
That’s fair. I am just emphasizing no one needs a reason to use a completely legitimate service. How people interpret that is up to them, but there is nothing inherently wrong.
Gary I was exaggerating with the 1. I’d like to think the few existing copies have been preserved better than that, but it looks like I wasn’t too far off.
