Are vintage boxes around anymore? I see some crazily priced on ebay, but none for the neo or e-reader sets basically. Checked buyee too but I’ve never shopped on there. Just not sure if I am not looking in the right place.
Has supply ever been plentiful for them? Only asking about “wotc” era
I feel like they were pretty prevalent on eBay from 2013-2016, but I agree that supply of boxes (not packs) have fallen off a cliff over the past few years.
Neo and e-Reader sets specifically are less common than some other sets like Base or Jungle which often saw more reprints and broader distribution. You can find them at conventions here and there, you’ll just have to pay a pretty penny for it.
Definitely interesting compared to the availability for English, which was printed to the moon all things considered. But if there is barely any availability now and hasn’t been much (especially for neo and e-reader) last few years, what is that going to look like 5-10 years from now? Wonder if they would virtually be non-existent. Such a cool items, the artwork on the boxes and packs are incredible.
Japanese eSeries boxes have always been scarce. I remember a few years ago, a Japanese Split Earth box was sold for over $20k, might have been closer to $30k. E1 boxes were available for $7-10k during the 2020-2021 english boom, and were definitely more available than E2-E5. I’m not sure where the pricing is on those these days.
Overall Japanese Vintage boxes have always been more scarce. Even the more printed sets that @gengarbrigade mentioned, when compared to English are significantly less available. I found some Neo boxes in storage the other day, and couldn’t find any recent comps. Even if there are recent sales, their scarcity probably creates more of a range.
feel like i never see japanese boxes pre modern being opened or even talked about other than like jungle or early neo. Just seems like you mostly see all of english wotc and then black and white on while the rest is spotty. Japanese its just nothing from mid neo through swsh. Just casually observing ofc.
They are definitely hard to find and if one pops up it’s a high price. But the range of the price is large. I’ve seen a Japanese VS Series booster box for 15k which I think is relatively low for its scarcity (still that’s a lot of money).
I think it’s like always. As time goes buy prices rise due to products being ripped and not printed anymore so the supply declined but demand remains or even grows. But as higher it gets there is a level where ppl who can afford these prices get fewer and fewer so the growth is not as linear (fast) as before.
It also depends on the seller. If they want the money fast they may sell for not the maximum of what they could ask for.
I’m watching the same Japanese neo (genesis) sealed booster box for almost 2 years now and it’s listed for 20k and still not sold.
Does anyone know where to find the JP e-Card McDonald’s promo booster boxes back from 2002? McDs just gave them out as boosters during the happy meal days of 2002, but I’m sure McDs received them in boxes first before distributing them.
I doubt any designed booster box exists for these kinds of promotional boosters, correct me if i’m wrong but i would imagine a box for these is just any cardboards box
Yeah the box and pack artwork of the e-readers and some neo are ridiculous. Jungle pack art though might take the cake, between that and Split Earth for me.
What’s the next best thing then for these vintage sets if boxes are never available?
Graded packs? Raw packs? Or just the best cards from those sets? The artwork on the packs blows me away
