For regular mid priced cards I shoot for 10s, For more expensive cards 9 is also good, for cards I struggle to find I’ll take any grade.
Personally I prefer ungraded over PSA 8 for now, but I’m also not looking into base set 1st ed, trophys, or notoriously hard cards to grade right now.
With exceptions to secret rares and high value cards, I prefer most stuff post EX series to be graded 10, unless I get a super price or am particularly fond of a card.
It really depends on the card for me. In general, for mass produced cards, I like to have PSA 10 copies. I like that there really are a limited number of copies that will ever be in such good condition. For some cards where the marginal price difference in grades is $1k or something I find that lower grades are a great value. For instance, I have a PSA 8 Prerelease Clefable that I would like to upgrade to a 9 but due to the massive price difference I find an 8 to be acceptable. For certain cards worse condition would be fine with me.
onlypsa 9 or 10s for me mostly 9s as they seemthe perfect price point where as most 10sjust seem to be so i use the word overprices but out of my budget will probably be better and most of the time i cant evan tell the differnece between 9 and 10 anyways
I would like to buy psa 10s, but financial reasons, I shouldn’t keep buying 10’s or the premium will kill my wallet so yeah an 8 or a 9 I’ll be happy with, if it’s a card I like. I like putting it in a binder is nice too, because I’m not selling it or anything. Easy to open and look at. PSA 9’s and 10’s sometimes when I buy them sometimes the case is chipped or a scratch on the front of the case. I wish I graded the GEM MINT 10 myself but I also wouldn’t have the money to go through all the trial and error before I get an actual 10.
If it’s not at least nine it can’t be mine
I’m fine with my box fresh sets being in binders.
Don’t need someone to tell me 1mm off centering or a mm of edge shimmering doesn’t class my cards as gem mint.
But omg… The money and authenticity… T.T
If I decide to sell my personal, I would probably grade as it would bring the best return on investment.
But I don’t necessarily chase psa cards much. Only a few Lil ones. But it needs to be 10… Just for market value.
Is up to the collector and your justification is good enough. With the money you save you can reach other collection goals. Now in my case, sometimes it adds to the challenge to look for that higher grade, other times, if your goal is smaller, then why not. Everyone has different budgets and as collectors we need to respect that. My only advice is that if you can afford it then once in a while go for that 10, it doesn’t hurt, especially with newer stuff. ![]()
