Alpha Investments goes Pokémon!

Aha, that is interesting indeed. I had to find that video specifically because I remember watching it all those years back, but yeah. I watched a few other sun and moon box openings to make sure I wasn’t making a fool out of myself with my comment. The pokemon evolutionaries on YouTube opened a box I watched and the very first pack on the left side had a holo, and then they got non holo rares for 4 packs in a row, clearly showing it wasn’t every third pack like Rudy stated. And the video clearly shows they opened them in order not randomized them and such. So there are different patterns at least. But still, it looked like the majority of the videos I watched so far did indeed have that every third pack order.

Rudy just commented on one of my videos. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hopefully one day we can collaborate!

A smpratte video featuring Rudy would be awesome! (Box battle?)

Buying into Pokemon recently, he almost certainly has come across this forum. Hell maybe he is even here as a member keeping it on the down low. Not sure he would openly join a forum about poking-your-mom.

Tcg podcast with Rudy and Scott assessing new releases and discussing the current market would be awesome!

I bought 3 pallets of 1st edition pokemon base set.

We typically have about 500 guests per day view the site. I wouldn’t be surprised if he read a couple threads.

This seems like it will be very interesting to follow. Rudy is opening another store and is going to video every step of it from signing the lease to renovating/outfitting the space and day to day operations of a card store.

Day has been made! Got pinned by AlphaInvestments! Lol, but anyways, he hasn’t made a video lately portraying towards the pokemon side of things, but if you guys haven’t seen his new video about repacked cards, that can relate to pokemon and it’s probably one of my favorite videos he has done in a while. I would definitely recommend giving it a watch. It brings to clear light why people are buying bulk the way they are. With magic, their bulk just piles up from opening stuff and is much more “worthless.” People are constantly buying bulk for pokemon, and I’d imagine it’s for the same reason, unless you legitimately collect bulk. Anyways, give yourself some entertainment and watch it. The last 2 minutes of it was just killer, I was laughing out loud.

Good watch for the people who might not understand that all those lottery and repacks are just trash bulk people are getting rid of for over-inflated prices. Or even companies paying individuals to open repacks given to them that would contain very rare cards that they do not actually include to promote and give false hope.

The problem with Pokemon isn’t nearly as bad as it is with Magic. If you look on Troll and Toads buylist they pay 6 cents per c/u Pokemon making 100 card repack lot’s market value at about $6. Usually those lots throw in a few holo and an ex which troll and toad would pay $2 or so more for in total. So say $8 of value for $20. Not the best in the slightest, but you can have that bad of luck (or worse) at Wally world with 4-5 booster packs for the same price. They are decent buys for some folks.

Now with magic, you can see Troll and Toad pays two tenths of a cent or $0.002 per bulk magic card. Making 100 cards only having an intrinsic value of only 20 cents! You are paying less for these than Pokemon, at about $8-$15 depending on the repack, but even with the mythic or whatever they throw in you are getting about 50 cents worth of cards.

In the end you are roughly paying 15-30x market value for magic repacks whereas you pay 2-3x market value for Pokemon.

It’s funny when people that sell repacks try and defend themselves online. They’ll never admit they’re selling trash to people who don’t know any better.

That’s because MtG bulk is free so the bulk rates are much lower. Remember that WotC just gives away a lot of land and intro decks to thousands of stores and because a lot of the cards has absolutely no value.

Whereas people will happily pay $0.25-$0.50 for a common Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, etc.

I used to sell the 100 lot guaranteed ex lots for $19.99 on my eBay. I had tons of repeat, very happy buyers. I eventually found though that I gave too much to make it worth the time compared to just bulk selling it. Mine was one of the best lots for your money IMO, but I didn’t have the inertia that CCGcastle and many of the other big guys had, so I didn’t hit nearly the sales they did, though I did sell several hundred over a year or two.

Mine went like this:

Advertised as 100 cards for the common search term but actually with 101 as outlined:

80 C/U mixed from the recent 6 sets or so.
10 reverse holo
7 non holo rare
3 holo rare
1 ex/full art (actually was including decent ex’s in the $3-5 range, obviously not $10+ ones, but not just the $2 xy promo that most do now)

Now I bulk sell it for a shade under $9 whereas I used to clear $12 or so if you figure paying someone $12 an hour or so to make and pack the lots. I just don’t have the time and couldn’t stomach making the lots shitty enough to be a decent margin for myself.

Rudy gave a shoutout and link to @smpratte in a recent video. It also explained his insane sub distributor pricing on the [sleeved evolutions boosters.

Looks like it was just a shoutout saying he would link it, yet he forgot to actually link it. :sob: Hopefully Scott will still see some traffic coming from it. I did see a comment on his video saying the guy came from alpha.

this usually happens. People are busy or they made a shout-out but later forgot they did.

I don’t see the insane value of buying 36 loose packs of Evolutions for $75 when you can buy a sealed booster box for <$80 but if you plan to open the packs then yeah its a pretty sweet deal. I wouldn’t call it an Alpha Investment though.
