Hopefully! It’s just those moments of hesitation and not going with my gut. My gut always said “Dude go for it!” and I didn’t listen. So gotta cut myself some slack.
The first is a little unique. I was in college and worked at a golf course. Guy in his 80s that I played golf and cards with was going to sell me 3 guns, and a personalized case and hand signed receipts for the guns that were owned and purchased by Audie Murphy. He had been a friend of his. Had agreed to buy them for 5-6k(what he wanted)He ended up pulling out at the last second.
I had contacted auction specialists on this stuff. The answer I kept getting was this is priceless. With the chain of ownership, personalization etc. well in excess of 100k and sky is the limit if marketed right.
Second was buying xrp for .005 or whatever it was. Was going to sink a few thousand into it, but me and my buddy were uncomfortable with the verification process on the exchanges.
Not actually keeping all or protecting my original Pokémon collection. Would probably be north of 20k today. I could probably keep going. But hey, at least I have a good career now and can just start over.
Worst almost gotem, had a couple rookie patrick Roy cards and really nice Pokémon card collection, I traded it all for a bear beanie baby with a rough tag. I was 11, I had the collecting spirit but in hindsight very stupid
Sold a PSA 9 1st ed blaines zard for $500. 1 month later they were $1200.
Sold a MP 1st ed base zard for $1350. 1 month later they were $4000+
Used to haggle with multiple sellers selling complete sealed masaki promo sets for around $800. I kept declining because i wanted to pay $700. Any one of the 5 is worth that now lol
Skyridge booster for $456, psa 6 shadowless zard for $300, expedition booster pack for $200, shining raichu for $40, crystal Ho-oh for $100, then again for $150… not to mention a jungle box for $2800.
Cant think of anything specific that I missed. I won a nm corocoro shining mew for a little over 20 bucks a couple of years ago which was a decent deal even then but it got lost in shipping. But I ended up just buying another for 30 bucks right after lol. Also wish I bought some more sealed vintage but there never was ‘that one that got away’.
Sometimes the deal you miss is the best deal you ever made. Early on I had chance to buy 2 or 3 dozen Japanese sets for a fair price. I decided to pass. Today’s those sets could be worth many thousands. Too bad? No. The very next day I was able to buy a ton of 1st Ed. Base holos that today are worth hundreds of thousands.
Had I not passed on the Japanese cards I would have lost over a quarter million.
Last month I was the under bidder on the two 1st ed Gym boxes on HA. The very next day a fella i havent dealt with in 6 months emailed me that he had a green wings and blue wings box for sale.
Bought them both and they’ve increased more than the Gym boxes and the green wings has shadowless pack arts (don’t know if it contains shadowless cards).
Goes to show the deals you miss may be for the better.
