Will this madness ever end?!? How have these prices risen so much in 2 years. It’s just unbelievable how this market has exploded!

Need something like this to happen for Pokemon www.cbc.ca/news/business/not-just-for-kids-1.4303965

James is well known in the MTG finance world & is a confident speaker, shame about the haircut though :stuck_out_tongue:

In 2 and a half years this should be a good deal then?

I feel like Gary’s story could be the beginnings of a Buzzfeed video.

Thanks. I try:)

LOL, i feel sorry for any sane mind that will inevitably have to go through those articles.
cool story Gary!

fuck the haters when you do what you love.

You can call someone stupid for passing something like this up and then laugh at them later for not jumping but you can also call someone stupid for going for it and later laugh at them because its worthless.
The unfortunate reality of it is that some people think they can express an opinion because its their right to do so and base it on what they believe to be the facts presented in front of them when they really dont know anything about what they talk about.
Moral to this story is that sometimes gambling pays off. Sure I believe theirs some element of strategy but no one really has a crystal ball.
You fortunately live in the right state to be weighing the options though.

@garyis2000 out of curiosity, not sure if you’ve ever mentioned it before but how many 1st edition cases did you get at launch?

Further:

How many were “sat on” initially?
How many were immediately cracked for selling singles if any?
How many were sold as single packs or sealed boxes?
Do you recall your cost on them?

At launch I got 2 or 3 cases 1st Base max. I mainly got Unl Base. I held on to the 1st base boxes until Fossil came out the sold them pack by pack.
I paid over market, appx 85.00 maybe 90.00 for both the Unl and 1st.
I don’t recall ever selling any Base Set boxes at least until 2006 or 2007 when I listing some Unl with a guaranteed Charizard (on the honor system lol).
Sorry it’s not a more interesting story;)

Still selling packs with a guarantee charizard lol

Ha no problem thanks for the answers. So the few loose boxes you sold in the past two years and the single case you still have are all from the original launch? Or did you ever buy more 1st edition boxes on the secondary market since launch?

Even “boring” stories I find to be quite interesting of the early undocumented days. I still hope some day we could get some information spilling out on the original print runs but I doubt that will ever be the case. I think it is awesome that magic gets to know roughly what A/B/U print runs were.
