I don’t know too much about the price of old packs, but there is a card shop close to me that recently did a 1st ed fossil box break, they are selling the 12 heavy packs 800 USD and they even told me in message that they guarantee an holo. Is it worth it or too expensive?
From a financial standpoint? Probably not. You’re hoping to pull the Dragonite, and even then, you’re needing it to grade a PSA 10 to make a profit. Fossil is a notoriously difficult set to grade, so the chances of 1.) pulling a Dragonite and 2.) having that Dragonite grade a 10 are incredibly slim. Articuno, Moltres, Gengar and Lapras are also great pulls, but again, you’re relying on them getting a PSA 10 (especially in the case of Lapras, whose entire value is based on its difficulty to grade).
Also keep in mind that Fossil is a pretty top-heavy set. While the top four or five holos in the set are big hitters and some of the best set cards of all-time, the rest of the set (Hypno, Hitmonlee, Ditto, Muk, Kabutops, etc.) is pretty weak.
But if you just want the experience and that experience is worth $800 to you? Then by all means, go ahead. Just don’t be upset if you end up pulling a Muk.
see if any of the other heavies holos have had silvering to see what kind of print quality you’re dealing with. You probably wont get a 10 because jungle and fossil holos silver a lot so therefore you probably wont make 800$ back but still theres some research you can do to be more knowledgeable beforehand
Wdym ? I’m asking if someone would have bought this pack at that price knowing that it 100% contains an holo. There is people selling those online at the same price but they never guarantee an holo.
And i’m also planning to keep it for years to eventually sell it. Being able to confirm an holo would be amazing when I sell the pack.
While a guaranteed holo is great, it is by no means a unique value proposition, and when you go to sell, it feels less “guaranteed”. You can only have a good idea of heavy and light packs if you open the box yourself, a heavy weight for one box will be light for another. If you want this pack for yourself, and $800 feels worth it, go for it. If you’re looking for an investment, I’d look elsewhere. May belong in the unpopular opinions thread, but in general I’d avoid pre-e series WOTC for a while as well.
I understand what you mean but the pack I’m talking about is a guaranteed holo heavy pack coming from a box break and the seller is 100% legit. Most heavy packs seller usually never confirm an holo because they don’t know if the pack comes from a box break and they dont want to risk to refund the buyer. And I don’t think you’re right, people usually feel more secured buying a guaranteed holo vintage pack and that’s why some people pay more for heavy packs opened from box breaks streamers
Best advice to new collectors in this age Ive heard in a long time. I have pople dm me asking if its a good time to buy base unlim because its down and theyre always shocked to hear that I wouldnt touch a base box at 10k even

What I’m saying is that in a few years, you’re no longer the box breaker, just a person saying It’s heavy like anyone else selling online. If it had a security tag, maybe different, but if not, It’s just another heavy pack.
