2025 Grading Company Debate

, ,

the good ol days when u could buy super old label cgc 9.5s for pennies on the dollar and cross em to psa 10s at like a 50% rate

I actually had quite a few cards go from cgc blue label 8.5/9 to psa 10

nice haha i figured u only need to hit like 20% for it to be worth it and even that was prolly conservative

For CGC Prisitines the main issue I have is sometimes bad centering is noticeable, but that may fall into the misgrades category but I still check the card regardless (I don’t trust any of the companies tbh)

Grading harsher or softer is just done whenever they feel like it at PSA, not counting their centering rule changes they make every now and then.

CGC actually lowered their scale and showed that on paper and did so in real life although it is what they have stuck with since.

@charizardespana I’ve noticed this with CGC to PSA up to the mid 4xxx certs

@Vertemes quad is 4, as in all 4 subgrades are 9.5, as shown by this nice card I found a pic of on the net

Here’s another fun one: TAG Portal. Obviously, this card is very hard to grade in a 10, but this still doesn’t look like a 10 to me.

TAG’s transparency is actually great, but it’s pointless if everything results in a 10 no matter how bad the card is. If the grades matched their analysis I’d value their slabs, as it stands I still don’t understand what’s going on with them though- guess instagram influencing works

It can’t detect surface flaws correctly imo

This is a really good illustration that even if you have a 1000 point scale and the grading is done by a computer, ultimately grading is a subjective process.
