XY mega pokemon price

I’ve been collecting a lot of cards from the xy era, specifically the mega’s, but they have all at least doubled in price this year. I have been holding out on buying a lot of them since their prices have been inflated so much, but their prices haven’t really gone down. Do you guys think that I should hold out longer, or should I just buy them now?

Hi, Welcome to Efour.

Follow your heart, No one here can decide what these cards are worth to you personally. Disregarding my lack of knowledge of your financial situation, Why delay what you can start today..?

Collecting is a marathon not a sprint.

I feel you since I had to abandon mine before finishing. Couldn’t find the last few before the Mega hype hit. I also haven’t been tracking prices but you could check TCGPlayer quantity sold.

I assume the prices haven’t moved much since there aren’t that many being transacted? The amount of hits starts to dry up with older sets and they weren’t printed as much. No idea when or if they’ll ever go down but safe to say the prices before they took off are long gone.

Perhaps when Gen 10 releases there’ll be less attention on Megas.

Welcome @saulgreatman !

I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that good deals still exist, if you use trusted and regulated auction platforms + notifications on said sites then you’ll find things eventually. Bid as if you aren’t too worried whether or not you win. BIN listings tend to be skewed toward overvaluation, though that’s not always a market rule.

Things might not be as cheap as they were before the Pandemic but we will never know how many individual copies of (most all) set cards exist. There will likely always be at least a few copies for sale to choose from, FOMO is the thing you want to avoid most here.

That’s simply to say that I’m repeating the point of buying what makes sense to you. The best path toward an awesome collection is the one that keeps you fiscally fit and mentally healthy. Needs vs. Wants, understanding what is reasonable and achievable, making sure you’re taking care of necessities before privileges and all that.
