When was the $1500 one sold?
About a month ago. The jnortoon/jolteonjoey brothers had 2 for sale, but both weren’t up to my standards for PSA 10s so I passed.
Lucky buyer. I have one and have multiple offers of a grand plus over that.

Deoxys is my favorite pokemon so I may be willing to pay up for one of these depending if its a solid 10. I’m ideally looking for a clean 2xxx cert for collection purposes, but that may be asking for too much lol.
Mine is a four cert but it’s pretty clean. I’m not technically selling it at the moment I was just curious where one sold because I haven’t even seen one for sale in a long time. I was going to move mine to my new eBay vault.
I knew the card was going for over $1000 around the time I stopped collecting in 2020 so I was surprised someone was able to still get one that low. All the other SLs seemed to have doubled if not more since then. I think I sold my ho oh Lugia pair for like 1500 back then lol.
You might find one though. It’s one of those cards that’s low pop and just doesn’t really get sold much. So it’s pretty much just worth whatever someone is willing to buy and sell it at at the given time.

Thanks, he’s selling in my price range but the condition is not up to my standards for the personal collection. Cardstock during this time was such doodoo even for the PSA 10s.

What cert series is it? You mentioned wanting a 2 cert but that’s specifically when the PSA 10s were handed out like candy and you could get away with corner whitening.

Its a 2 cert. While I do believe on average, the 2 cert 10s may be weaker than newer 10s, there should be legit 10s that were submitted during that time too. I have been seeing many COL SL 10s with whitening though across the cert ranges. Could just mean the clean 10s are already tucked away in forever collections, or maybe certain graders factored the difficulty of grading for the set, but I can’t justify paying up for a 10 that should be a 9. I might just have to go for a different deoxys.

That was my dilemma when I was going to get a gold star Umbreon to replace the one I sold years ago. I even had someone in my city selling one for a decent price but it like a lot of the ones I found had multiple whitening areas.
Back at that time it was pretty well known you could still get a 10 with some whitening. Now not so much. Some say the same thing about 4 series but the worst I usually see with those is a single white corner nick. And I graded a lot of WOTC myself at that time and could personally never get 10s with white spots.
If your buy range is on the lower end of a card I’d probably look for something else or go for a 9. There are a lot of cool Deoxys cards.

Interesting, you don’t believe into the sentiment that most of the experienced collectors on here push that grading standards haven’t changed?
I’ve already got all the deoxys exs and SL1 in 9s, was just looking to upgrade to 1 10, like a grail deoxys. Wish it had gotten a GS.
I’m not necessarily limited on funds, just need to justify the value of the purchase. Not going to spend 10x for a grade that is weaker in condition than the one I already have.
Was considering the 97 ex deoxys in psa 10 but don’t value it at $4500+ like some sellers do. I’ll probably just keep the 9s for now and see what pops up in the future.
I don’t know that it’s grading standards changing so much as the juxtaposition with the quality of modern cards creating more of a natural bias against some of the usual things you would see with vintage cards. They are seeing more ultra rare/sr/alt arts coming from the factory in gem mint condition than ever before. Largely because of the way they make these full textures cards. So it sort of naturally raises the expectation

Ok makes sense. I should rephrase it. Its more like PSA has changed their interpretation of the grading standards, including some of the reasons you stated. But the grading standards listed have not changed.
@wadeit0ut I see that youre looking to sell that Deoxys SL1 on ebay. You able to work out a deal here, or do you have to sell through ebay since its in their vault? I’m still looking to pick up and the one you’ve got listed looks decently clean.
It’s only a $50 withdrawal fee but it would depend on the price. But just a heads up I already have someone who wants to buy it for just a few hundred less than I have it listed for. It’s actually the person I got it from in a trade. They also offered me a 2x cert copy of this card plus $500 lol. So I’m assuming the 2x copy had whitening.
Idk if its the same guy but Lowpopping on insta is asking $2200 for his. The other one that Mussundwerdich mentioned was asking $2000.
Does $2400 sound fair? I can do that through ebay or off platform and youd be helping me cross a goal off the list

Yeah the one he has listed on his IG is the one I have that I got with another card in a trade. He wanted to trade me some 2 cert one and cash for it back but I had just sent it off to eBay authentication and had clue how long it would take to even get it back.
If the 2200 one you’re referring to is the 2 cert one I’d ask for pictures. Might honestly be a better deal if it’s clean.
Lol I already have, trust me, I check for these like almost every day. But his isnt up to my standards for the personal collection. That’s probably why he’s willing to offer $500 on top of it for the copy he already gave to you.
If you don’t want to work something out, no worries. I’ll just keep waiting for another one to come up for sale.
