Hey all! I posted a video I made of myself opening some First Edition Team Challenge Booster Packs on Reddit yesterday. One of the posters said that THIS would be the place to post saying all of you would be the ones who would really appreciate it. So without further delay, please feel free to checkout my youtube, Jess’ Collects where I mostly open older WOTK packs, some EX packs, and a couple of newer pack opening videos (for the youngsters). Let me know what you guys think, and I hope you enjoy
Nice pull at the end there, I didn’t have much hope as I figured the loose packs would’ve been weighed. You should open a few 1st edition jungle, rocket, fossil etc boxes
Hey thanks for watching Pierce. I have made a couple of those, you should check em out More to come, I have some EX Sandstorm and a few more First Edition Team Rocket ill be posting in the near future. None of the packs iv’e bought have been weighed luckily. (or at least I wouldn’t think cause it would have been a poor job lol)
I don’t think so, no. Those are images/albums that are posted on here to show off what you’ve got in recently. The difference in this situation is that it is a link to YouTube that gives them views, ad revenue (usually) and subscribers… 100% self promotion.
There’s no gain outside of other collectors appreciation when you post images of your collection.
I mean YouTube is just a means of delivering content, just like posting photos here. Just because there’s the potential for profit doesn’t mean the OP’s motivations are selfish.
I think I agree that this kind of content should be minimized though. You and Gary have a point. I just don’t like that the reasoning is so broad it may encompass things such as collection threads.
Additionally, we actually have a YouTube link in the banner of the website. I’m not suggesting it be removed but how can we disallow a post like this and not be accused of double standards?
I thought there was a specific thread for Youtube/facebook/instagram?
This place would become just a shit as reddit if users started posting up stuff like this.
OP’s videos have like 100 views and he’s brand new to YouTube. He’s not making any money I assure you. So while I agree we don’t need to become a forum full of people posting random pack openings there’s no need to jump on new members who don’t know any better when a basic explanation would work.
Hey guys, I only posted because you never really see people open up old packs anymore and thought some people would enjoy it. My wife and I like collecting the old sets and one day just decided to make a video. I don’t make any money from making these videos lol. But if it is a big issue I can definitely delete the post.
Probably ok to just let it fade.
YouTube is flooded with Pokemon stuff and anyone can go there to find it. If we encouraged common stuff like Pack openings all our serious content would be avalanched by those ad’s.
Now if you want to start a collection thread that’s cool.
Keep in mind…no sales are allowed to be solicited ever but you can request items you want to buy as long as you state your cash offer at the same time.
Trade offers are ok too:)
Youtube PSA reveal videos are ok but best to put them in the Great Grading Result Thread.
God forbid someone use a community to build community!! What gall!! /s
I think there is nothing wrong with it as long as it is quality. If the content is applicable and of a quality that people appreciate and enjoy then I see it as a positive!!
So instead of talking about the cool pulls and cards and integrating a new person with similar interests to you, you would rather ban posts, censor ideas and promotions and shut down conversations?? Or would you rather just complain and fear monger? I am honestly disappointed and confused by the negative response here. Reddit is a different beast altogether, and I agree with you in the context of that, but here??? I see no issue, this person is kind and seems pretty valuable to have in the community. We want to grow larger not shut people down!
I don’t think anyone is trying to drive away a new user. I think just by having your first post be a pack opening is dubious for some people. Pack openings are fine, but there should be an imgur alternative to show off your pulls with it. Some people may not want to watch the video, but pictures of pulls allow the same discussion, and make some people feel more confident that you’re not just using the forum as a way to publicize videos. It’s the same as reddit - you can post a video of pack openings, but the video link must be in the comments, and the actual reddit post is an album of your pulls. This makes it more of a ‘choice,’ rather than forcing you to watch the video to understand what’s happening.
Either way, I don’t think Jess did anything that wrong. I think he should’ve just gauged the forum a bit better to see that it’s more of a text/img based forum rather than a video one. At least he didn’t open a crimson invasion booster box. It’s something you don’t see every day.
Okie doke good feedback, in the future if I pull anything cool I’ll just post a picture or something. This is a pretty good forum from what I’ve seen so I’ll be sticking around. Thanks peeps
