I usually thought to sell it for a slightly higher price than raw card prices? Sometimes I actually wonder why they grade such cards…

Funny thing about Old Maid cards is the pop is a lot lower than people think – it’s just that everyone had the same idea for the “play” and there’s no real organic demand for them right now so the market looks oversaturated when in reality… who’s getting excited for an Old Maid card, even if Ooyama is the illustrator?

It’s also possible that everyone here has a very specific view of this hobby that is compounded by the echo chamber effect of being surrounded by others who only appreciate vintage cards. This trend of increasing graded card numbers has been going on for four years, people are obviously enjoying it and or finding a market for the cards. There are a lot of people who enjoy modern cards. Is there any evidence these graded cards are junk or are we just calling all modern cards junk and people are going to be bankrupted because of this trend?

e4 may be comprised of more vintage collectors than Reddit, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc., but many of us also collect, open, buy/sell modern product, myself included. I open every modern set and have binders of modern collections - it’s just not the focal point of my collection, nor something that I feel is necessary to show off. The users of e4 are much more diverse in their interests and collections than you may think.

Nobody is calling all modern cards junk. And “junk cards” can be found across modern and vintage. Disproportionately, the junk slabs on PWCC, eBay, etc. are commons and uncommons from WoTC sets that were sold during the 2020/2021 boom and are now worth less than their grading fees.

If you want to find evidence of junk cards getting graded, take a look on PWCC each week. Hundreds of cards are sold without a single bid at the $5 minimum. Or look on eBay and find thousands of auctions ending for <$10, lower than the current grading fees.
