So, decided a few months back that I like Chinese exclusive cards. Legitimately something I want to collect and not investment bro on (that’s for other cards ) but I’ve got to say… what has happened in the last six months?
The demand doesn’t really surprise me, the art on these cards is spectacular (I adore the Cubone) and the Chinese market (both Chinese and non-Chinese buyers) is definitely expanding.
I will admit; I expected to see these cards reprinted into Japanese or English but at this point I don’t see that happening and that’s ok. If they do indeed stay exclusive, I’ll continue to pick it up, it just wasn’t in my bingo card to ever look at Chinese cards as a serious player in the game.
This, chinese mew went up 2x from 25k to 50k which is cool and all that but i have mew cards which went literally 10-15x in the same timespan
Again, still nice to see, it is harder for a 25k card to move than for a 200$ card, especially when populations are similar. Think it will eventually break 6 figs if they do not reprint it and btfo my dreams
This discussion makes me wonder if anyone in the economics sphere has developed a factor that accounts for both magnitude and scale that could provide more meaningful insight into discussions like this
I was in the camp of expecting an eventual release in other languages down the line (long enough down the line for it to matter less in the Chinese market), but I’ve accepted that it won’t be happening as well. I imagine others are coming to this conclusion and buying whilst they can.
If it were to get reprinted in other languages I’d assume it’d tank but
Yeah, obviously talking about ROI and not absolute dollars but it is nicer to see a 200 card to go to 4000 than for a 25k card to go to 50k, in the same timeframe, in my book atleast
Reason being wealth is relative and for someone to x fold their money can be more meaningful than for someone elses to double it, despite absolute dollars being in a different figure bracket
Also i agreed with what you’re saying btw, it is harder for the mew to multiply because there is a thinner buyer pool of 25k cards than there is for 200$ card’s but you also gotta take into consideration the supply of things.
My mew cards in the hundreds which went to thousands such as japanese vintage, all had similar populations like the chinese mew for 10s. A 200$ card with +20k populations has it equally hard to multiply
