When to sell

Only you can know when the right time to sell is and if you need to sell. We hold stocks for the purpose of selling at the right time usually. We buy pokemon cards because of the “feelz” we get from owning, opening and thinking about the nostalgia involved. If you have something you need the money for and can view it as a trade up, then go for it. You are selling 1 remember, not everything. I have to remind myself of this sometimes too.

So many good points made already. The time to sell is when you need the money or you’re done with the hobby. OR if you’ve got extra copies why not consider trading some of that capital off of your shelf for another key card. I think you’ll regret selling just to lock in the gain

Buying more than one of something seems awfully silly don’t you think? No matter how much you like it. Uhmmmm…hold on. Never mind🙄

The whole collection, never. When to sell some, I would say every so often but always be buying other stuff. Just to keep things interesting and not get bored.

Personally, I try to only sell when I am trying to buy something bigger.

Completely agree with the above comments. Personally unless I needed to sell because times are hard I wouldn’t sell off any of my personal collection.
But saying that if the money from a sale was going towards a big holiday with the kids, making memories or life easier that’s got to be considered, it’s brill situation to be in!

Only sell if you have to or want to fund for another purchase

I see value buys all the time. Been right so far

Usually if my love for a specific card does not outweigh my desire to sell at a big profit I’ll sell. There are some I have tripled my money on and I won’t sell if it goes higher and I’ll even be happy if it goes down again because I’ll never get rid of it.

I think THIS is the best example for me up to this point. I do it all the time and my favorite is when I sell a lower grade to help purchase the same card in a higher grade. It makes the whole thing seem like it costs a lot less and it literally does if both cards have gone up in value.

Now I am considering selling a small part of my collection to help fund a house I am buying. If the money is needed or will make a significant impact, then I am inclined to sell and it will only be one small part of my collection for my much bigger future, but if I can keep it, then I will. This is my hobby and if I look to just lock in gains and make money, then the chase is not so fun anymore.
