Went to Tcgtopia today and got this mini grail of mine! It’s been on my list for quite some time now. I’m definitely sending it in for recasing very soon. So excited to add this to the graded binder!
Congratulations on getting such a beautiful and rare card. For my understanding, what is the benefit of recasing? Is there not a significant risk of the card being damaged during this process?
Recasing is just a personal preference for me. I want a new case (this one has a few scratches), and new and unwrinkled label. I also kind of like how PSA takes scans of the new case, same as with any newly graded card.
Last year I sent in my Space Mew for recasing, which is a 2 cert as well and was in a similar condition. I want my favorite cards to look their best. I also keep them in a graded card binder that I am always flipping through so I look as these cases quite often.
Slowly growing my Entei collection. I can only afford to purchase a card once every two weeks, and I’m thinking about saving up for the gold star Entei
This guy came in the mail today, so stoked!
Some risk yes but very low. There is also shipping risk etc. however those really old cases are less secure than current models and frankly just look worse imo. I would also reholder if I had them. Personal preference
40,- is a steal! Great job
Id crack the 7 iMHO
Meowth finally arrived, but that will be my last modern purchase for a bit until prices start coming down. Which is fine, my vintage project is at 84% complete, 216/256 cards so I’ll focus on finishing that this year.
Got this guy right before the holidays. I thought I would add at least one playtest card of a artwork and Pokemon I like despite the controversy over them as I think they’re a cool part of history.
I also noticed this artwork wasn’t used on any of the early sets that were released. Anyone know when this artwork was ever used?
Beautiful. I believe that this Slowbro was used on Sabrina’s Slowbro as far as I can tell.
Nice pick up! It was used for Sabrina’s Slowbro!
Edit: Didnt see escheck reply
Anyone feel free to respond to this, but Drew, over the past few weeks I’ve bought a handful of raw modern Art Rares from a couple of local card shops. I think I’ve paid between $1-$8. My question is, where are you sourcing your cards (internet / real world / combo)? Is it simply for your binder collection? And how much emphasis do you place on card condition?
Prior to these few small purchases, I’d only ever purchased a single in 1999, as a child lol, of a base set Alakazam from EBay.
I think the way my brain has made sense of the current state of modern cards, if I’m not able to buy booster boxes and there are loads of cards in each set, it seems somewhat futile to buy the occasional pack. The cards are relatively affordable raw and I am more drawn to the Art Rares. I think there is a part of me that can’t ignore the economic aspect to any individual card and at the same time I’ve never sold a card.
I’m not sure how much sense I’ve made here, lol, but buying the singles I like that I’ve come across so far, does feel like a nice intro back into the hobby.
Interested to hear anyone’s thoughts, feelings, or approaches!
My personal opinion: I think buying singles is always the way to go. Whether you want a particular card to complete a set, min-set, artist, species etc, just buying the individual card is an absolute no brainier. As you say, most of these cards are very affordable and also available.
I always believed that opening packs is for the thrill of being able to pull a chase card and also probably to have a good time with loved ones or friends if you do it together. So sure you can buy a few packs/boxes to get the experience. But as a collector for me it makes sense to buy singles always to complete my binders.
As for the condition tolerance, I think it is more of a personal choice on what you seem appropriate. As a strictly binder collector I have slowly become used to not having NM cards. I have made peace with it for my own collection. But I do know that condition does affect collectors more than they care to admit, as in it is better to wait and pay a premium for a good condition card rather than a damaged one.
Cheers!
Always buy singles. It will save you a lot of money, time, and heartache.
Hello!
Yes, I always buy singles, NM for my Japanese modern binder, and anything from LP and up for my Japanese vintage binder. All purchased online from various sites, including ebay.
Love this!! Cant wait to open!!! I usually buy a bunch of cards usually around 100 packs total. Then my Nephew comes over and we have a rip shindig!!
