This is the November 1997 issue of CoroCoro Comic with the unpeeled Flying Pikachu promo still attached
Kinda crazy that i own this honestly. I went from having never seen one like two weeks ago, to having it in my hand. A couple things to note…
- its quite a bit thicker than i expected (its like 800 pages)
- its also smaller than i thought. I expected it to be closer to the size of a magazine. Its the same size as a pokemon adventures colletors edition/ vizbig (?)
- corocoro comics are quite literally comic books. Its basically entirely full of comics that are either large series with a single chapter or one shots (its reminiscenct of what i would expect shonen jump to be like). There are advertisements and stuff, but the vast majority is comics (including some very old pokemon stuff)
- there appears to be a mario world reference on the front (mario riding yoshi)
- Crash Bandicoot is on the cover as well as Kirby
- you can mildly see the actual card through back side of the unpeeled sheet in the right lighting
- CoroCoro promos have such bad centering problems, even the scan printed on the back of the sheet is off-center lol
- something does appear to have been torn out from a perforated line right where the promo is at the front (about an inch missing from the sides of all the pokemon pages)
- multiple e4 members helped guide me in acquiring this. Cheers

Edit: i wasnt expecting to see trophy pika!! (sorry for the bad quality lmao)

My favorite part about 1997 coros is how toy car racing and build your own car was apparently a huge hobby in Japan based on the ads, it’s a fun slice of history.

How many versions do you have so far?
I only have one corocoro comic as well. A long time ago I was thinking of picking up a monster shipment of these including some of the first corocoro comics.
My favorite thing about these comics are the advertisements. It really brings me back and it makes me want to have grown up in japan in the 90’s. The ads are often crazy and hilarious. The color pages are definitely the highlight.
As for the torn page they could be stickers. Right before my wooper insert there is a sweet crash Bandicoot racing sticker

that would be insane actually. they honestly feel kinda underrated in the sense that they’re a huge piece of history with some sealed cards that are pretty difficult to find sealed in the first place (not to mention, most of those older cards that are peeled are not easy to find in good condition). like imagine getting the original Pikachu & Jigglypuff? the first pokemon cards released? in the original magazine still? absolutely insane.
I feel like growing up in Japan during the 90s must’ve been genuinely awesome. It’s always seemed like Japan is more thoughtful with the releases and promotions they do. Lots of colour, exciting, fun references to the games… it’s chefs kiss
true it may be stickers. kinda makes me want to hunt for a completely intact one
I was actually kinda surprised to see Crash Bandicoot in CoroCoro Comics as well lol he’s even on the cover!
I also wanna ask, do you have any specific way you store your comic? I want to preserve it as best as possible, but feel kinda uncomfortable just rawdogging it onto my book shelf lmao

Since I only have the one, it is just sitting in a drawer at my parents place haha. I must have picked it up maybe 4-5 years ago back when I was living at their home. So, I don’t really have any storage recommendations, maybe find a big enough plastic bag to wrap it in so the edges don’t get damaged? Otherwise just pray your house doesn’t have high humidity!
I believe there is a museum somewhere with all of the magazines. If I remember correctly they were just all in a room of shelves and had covers out. If you have a spare gigantic room full of shelving… Corocoro’s might be something to pursue!
There are likely people here with extensive corocoro collections who can chime in.
I will state that I have a magazine from 1942 in my collection (non pokemon related) and time will take it’s tole on everything paper eventually unless you’ve got museum archiving skills. The less dings and creases your book takes on now will likely translate to additional years of survival later on

I was able to get these 8x10s from a friend IRL. I hadn’t planned on getting them, or any of the Van Gogh stuff for that matter. He brought up that he had gotten a set along with his promo and was only after the card. In the mania of this fairly hectic release, a glimmer of wholesomeness!
Thanks Nate if you’re somehow on here, don’t dox me!
