What was your childhood grail card?

Good old venusaur black star 13 was my green whale. My Nintendo Power magazine finally came and the envelope… was already emptied. I literally cut out the image on the envelope and glued it on an energy. I still have it to this day. And unfortunately led to collection of numerous sealed NP magazines now to spite whoever that mail thief was that fateful 90s day.

There’s Pokémon then there’s that number 1 with that pointed, angular stare gazing just for you.

Yeahyeah Alakazam hits differently.

For me, it would be the Pichu from the Neo Premium File 2. I remember exactly the moment I found this card. I was looking through Pokemon binders at my local card store after school when I was in middle school and that was the first time I ever saw such a shiny looking pokemon card so I had to buy it and I still have the card in decent condition

Well, I was technically correct

Glad you ignored what I wrote, though, and continued to pursue your dream

Japanese Rocket’s Zapdos. Even after quitting, it always stayed with me. Back in the day I lent it to Jorge Figueiredo who procceed to ace one of the Tropical Mega Battle tournaments in Hawaii

It was always this card. I collected throughout my life just from packs I’d get from the store, from my parents, etc. but the early-era Japanese cards always fascinated me since they weren’t as easy to get a hold of. That and I loved how they looked with their (later) silver borders.

This was the first graded card I ever purchased and it will be with me forever. I wanted it as a middle schooler so I thought it was only appropriate to get it in its best form possible once I learned more about cards and graded cards in general.

My Charizard which I pulled from a pack for one.
I would also have to say Unown A, since I traded a Chansey for it. Have always liked the occult and the ridiculous.

As a kid, my grail would have been the Arceus subset from Platinum Arceus. Such beautiful art…

Base set Charizard, it was thee card to get. I was in Primary school when Pokemon came out and like today charizard was the chase.

The Fossil Mew was LEGENDARY in my friend circles. I only had the non-holo English Black Star Promo of this mew growing up, and didn’t even know the holo version of the promo existed. I remember one of my friends saying that he heard there was a Mew you could get in Fossil packs that was holo. None of us believed him, but you better believe that we all then went crazy opening up Fossil in a race to get the legendary Mew. The only problem was, we were opening up tons and tons of English Fossil packs haha. This local legend probably went on for about a year. Then one day when I was in a card shop, I was flipping through some sort of Pokemon magazine and saw an article that had a picture of this Mew! Now I understood that all of our hunting was futile. A few years later, after I had pushed Pokemon aside for a bit, I was remembering back to those days, and decided to just pick up this copy on eBay for nostalgia’s sake. I remember paying like $4 for it at the time haha. I still look at this mew today and get all of the childhood excited feels.

Same. I remember hearing about “Shining Cards” when Destiny came out. Bought a few packs during a grocery run with my mom when I was about 11 and pulled it in Target. Still my favorite card to this day. All of my collecting goals are around shinings to this day lol

Not technically a card, but the Mewtwo gold card from Burger King. We didn’t eat at BK, so I had no idea what it was, and assumed it was the most valuable card ever made. Traded away my Charizard for it, and a bunch of other random cards. No desire to own it now though, I’m more bitter that I traded away my Charizard lol. I pulled it myself, which is crazy considering I probably only ever opened like 5 packs in my life before buying some modern stuff this past year.

contrary to all expectations, it was not charizard for a buddy. He forgot it outside and it rain a lot. After that his father drove over the Card with a lawn mower.
He wasnt a Pokemonfan but everytime i saw his card something died in me XD
Still cant believe the card was in 1 Piece after all that Trouble but the Surface was close to nonexistent.
Others would have sold their soul for a Charizard, he just didnt care ^^
