So a few days ago, I made a best offer on eBay for 10 1st Edition Base Set cards (ungraded). After about a day-and-a-half, the seller accepted my offer. However, at checkout, it says shipping will be $13.40. Obviously, I’m not paying 13 bucks for shipping for 10 cards (and it’s not like these are Charizards or anything; it was 10 commons), so I messaged the seller asking if they could send me an invoice with combined shipping.
That was two days ago. The seller has yet to respond. I sent the seller another message this morning asking if they received my previous request for the combined shipping, but there has still been no response.
If the seller doesn’t respond, what do I do here? Am I stuck paying the $13.40 for the shipping? Or am I in the right because the seller is simply not communicating with me?
Yes they are. I went back in and edited my OP. I should have specified that from the beginning. They were 10 ungraded commons.
So if I want to cancel the order because of this, am I subject to negative feedback from the seller? Or would I be able to get the potential negative feedback removed because I tried to communicate with the seller on multiple occasions?
Was shipping method and costs specified in the listing? It is fairly likely he was and he only accepted the $100 knowing he was getting money on top for shipping though it sounds like you were assuming in your offer that $100 was $100 shipped. It usually is very clear when you make an offer than any shipping will be in addition and it usually shows what that amount is too (at least on computer).
Are you in the US?
If he sends 10 toploaded cards in a bubble mailer international then he is about spot on with the postage as it starts in that ballpark for first class international which is the same method I ship single PSA graded cards.
Too many unpaid items cases on your account can restrict you from buying from certain sellers if they have their seller account setup to block those sorts of buyers.
It’s a minor concern if you only fail to pay once every couple months, just FYI @Cerulean
If you ask the seller to cancel though, you will have no negative marks upon cancelation. Hopefully he responds…
If you’re going to buy multiple items from the same seller, and you have any shipping questions, ask before you bid. Otherwise you should pay the invoice.
Good news: the seller got back to me and sent me an invoice for combined shipping. Guess the seller just takes a long time to check their messages. Lol.
And shipping cost was listed, but nothing on combined shipping. As Gary said, I probably should have asked beforehand regardless. I just assume that most sellers offer combined shipping (never encountered a seller that didn’t).
Ah ok I have no idea where I thought I had read $100. But yeah in the future ideally ask ahead of time as you mentioned. If not asking ahead of time it is safest to just assume the worst and only bid/offer assuming no combined shipping discount. Then if you win and they do it, its just that much better of a deal.
Glad to hear it worked out. I try to get back on my messages a few times a day but things do come up from time to time that may keep me 24-48 hours without having a chance to check as well.
