Tired of seeing market talk and speculation, what set has the best art consistency? When I mean art consistency I mean that the cards have a cohesiant and common theme. There are no specific outliers in terms of cards (some being amazing and some being terrible for example), and if you saw the cards, you could say “Hey, that goes in this set!”
I honestly think WOTC takes the cake on this and maybe e-series, but I honestly don’t know which set its for, thoughts?
Shoutout to also to Perfect Order, Chaos Rising, and Pitch Black for the little narrative where daytime Lumiose turns to night and then gets destroyed by The Fog
Gym Heroes & Gym Challenge - all [Trainer]'s pokemon
Double Crisis - all team magma/aqua pokemon from the fued between the two teams
Dragon Vault - all dragon type pokemon (not really art related but its a common theme)
Southern Island - all the art is from “the island”
Detective Pikachu - all featuring the same movie style artwork
Pokemon Rumble - all featuring the same “artwork” from the game
Focused on this bit. I’m sure there are sets with way better artwork but the ones I mentioned have a 100% common theme through and through with no outliers among the Pokemon.
There are also many sets with all pokemon from being in a single generation, which I didn’t count because there’s too many and its kind of low hanging fruit.
Honestly I’d say Destined Rivals fits this pretty well! The arts are really good and a lot of them tell a story about what’s happening in that world at the moment.
And if you look at the rocket cards, the evolutions line a lot of the time starts with the pokemon out in the city/wild then as they evolve they show them in some kind of rocket facility or factory. Like as they evolve they get more corrupt.
Conversely, the cards where the trainers have the pokemon, you see their evolutions training in nature or at their gym, not doing some dirty deeds of their masters. So the good is evolving through hard work, and the bad is evolving through slavery.
if you even think about the name, Destined Rivals, these good and bad are destined to be rivals (duh) because they fundamentally are opposed to each other.
Yea Wotc is always good Gen 2 was really cool as well. I like the artbooks / manga art style / Postcard art also doesn’t get much lovin. I hope PM - Pokemon / Nintendo does something special with this down the road…I don’t know anymore honestly. Probably because some of the magazine’s had explicit or adult oriented content not all but many!
Nintendo wanted to keep the TCG child oriented, but it feels like its more adults do it these days. I know its a good mix of ages but this for me is the only thing I would even like to see. Also, no MissinNo. or glitch types would be a really cool addition…not holding my breath here either. The creativity seems lacking in many Tcg’s not just PM not being negative this is my impressions over 4-5 years now.
I feel like Fan Cards made on here and other ones are better than what’s being pumped out. I wander how much of the cards now are relying on AI if anyone knows that would be cool information.
Jumbo Carddass for me ATM Mario 64 / DK / Mariokart 64 / Pokemon - PM are currently my go to CoroCoro Jumbo as well Banpresto not so much although artwork also heavily under rated!
