What’s the story behind base set 1999-2000 cards?

I’ve definitely heard of these but just saw that PSA is making labels for them.

Some of the holos match prices of shadowless non 1st Ed.

Are they that rare? I don’t know too much about them

Yes they are rare and pretty expensive. The packs that these are from don’t always have 1999 2000 holos just unlimited holos. The rest of the cards have the 1999 2000 on them. If every pack had a 1999 2000 holo in it they wouldn’t be as much but the fact that a big portion doesn’t increased the price a lot. I had plenty of 9s still have some and traded a Hitmonchan 10 a while back. Since my Hitmonchan trade I know another surfaced and went for £2000 gbp. Some of these are nigh on impossible to find in a 10. Just remembered I have a Machamp sealed psa 10.
