Ruby sapphire has more in common with skyridge than it does neo
Manufactured within months of each other, same reverses, same Holo, no 1st Ed, ereader (holos changed slightly)

This is by far the weakest era in my opinion (DP/B&W/early XY). But there´s a weird charm to it because of that.
I would actually argue that DP is vintage at this point. It may not have the popularity of WOTC or the EX era, but it’s two decades old now.
in english/international yeah. in jp this was the start of the glorious silver borders

I really like the DP-DPt era!
Because…well…
But seriously though, I just really really like the design of the cards and the art even with the outdated 2000s CG quality, I find these endearing, especially with the way DP/Gen 4 really tried to keep up the image of being this “sleek, modern, and futuristic” generation with all the metallic effects and space imagery.
These cards came out around the time I first got into Pokemon as a whole and I remember really really wanting them along with the RSE sets but never getting a chance to since cards were a little out of the way for me even then. The most I could manage were fake ones sold by the bulk in square tins.
Thankfully, I could finally afford and access the real deal now, but I often wonder how it felt to buy one of these packs and pull a sick looking Lv. X or SP card instead of looking through online listings for them ahaha…
I should stop rambling, I’m so sorry
Just out of curiosity, did you play any of the gen 2 games (original or DS remakes)? The reason I ask is because as someone who loved both versions, these sets naturally stand out and interest me a lot.
HGSS is one of my favorite sets (and eras) because there are countless artworks directly referencing the games. Things like locations, mechanics (such as evo stones), in game events (Red Gyardos, Slowpoke well), etc.
For me personally it remains as one of the most game influenced sets/eras. If you haven’t revisted the artworks lately, I highly recommend you do so. There is a lot of beautifully illustrated artworks even in the common cards.
Yeah, I actually grew up with Pokémon Gold. I bought that game three times over, because I lost it once, and sold it once, thinking I was done with it.
I think that is the reason I love Neo so much. It´s also the reason why I didn´t like the remakes, because as far as I was concerned they did not capture the vibe of Johto. I think this could have also translated to the HG/SS sets. But probably, it´s more because I just didn´t like the new cards. I´ll check them out, might like them better now.
I´m just a sucker for anything from the original Gen 2. This, in my opinion, is the absolute best;
