What is your card selling routine?

When you’re ready to sell a card from your collection, what is your “routine?” Do you list it on ebay as a BIN, BIN + OBO, auction? Do you send directly to PWCC to auction, or maybe you have everything already in the PWCC vault? Do you list in facebook or reddit groups or make a youtube video showcase?

When I first started I mainly posted on the pkmntcgtrades subreddit and the Virbank facebook group. As I grew my collection I transitioned more and more to ebay. I usually list cards at a relatively inflated price as a BIN on ebay and let them sit for a bit. After a while of not selling I’ll add an “or best offer” and see if there’s any interest. Rarely will I transition to an auction as I’d personally rather just let the card sit.
I’ve never used PWCC or their vault but could see myself doing so in the future, and for raw cards I usually just list them on TCGplayer or ebay if they’re not English.

That’s definitely an option!

depends on what I’m selling. If it’s below $20. BIN with no best offer and anything above is BIN with best offer. I dont really sell cards worth more than $50 anymore.

There are various forms of being ready to sell. There’s ‘I need money quickly’, ‘If I sell this I can buy something else’, and ‘If I get a great offer I can think about letting it go’.

For the first two it’s either auction or BIN with offer. For the latter it’s just list it high with offers. For auction I would only use PWCC; for BIN either, though PWCC is very attractive.

as spoken about in discord, I have such a hard time with finding the energy to sell things so for me its always a rough boat. Most of my non graded singles end up staying in binders or boxes (as i feel anything non graded to me feels like a waste of time, even thought it may not be) and if I have something graded id like to sell I usually go one of two routes: make a listing on ebay with best offer and see what happens, or send to pwcc if i have at least 10+ cards id like to get rid of to make way for something else. I find Pwcc to be one of the greatest options being that I dont have to do any work at all, but also comes with the fact you may not get what youre looking for if said auction goes low. All and all, i rather less work in the end so its my main choice if needed.

I basically only sell things if I really don´t need them anymore (happens once in a blue moon, after readjusting some goals usually) or if I have the chance to get a piece that I´m looking for. Once I decided what the item(s) to sell are I usually just list them on ebay. In the meantime I´m contacting a few people who I think might be interested and that´s usually enough to move the items pretty quickly.
For listing on ebay I just list as BIN with best offer, only do auctions for fun and feeling the market a bit sometimes.
I avoid situations at all cost where I´m forced to sell something quickly in case I can´t move it.

Sending to PWCC is a great option too but I don´t do it too often as I´m located in Europe, when I sell via PWCC it´s mainly cards I´ve sitting in the vault or shipped to the vault directly from the US.

I think the majority of mine have fallen into “If I sell this I can buy something else.” Since I’m more of a graded collector, any raw cards I can’t or don’t plan to grade usually end up for sale at some point.

Get to the store for 5am, quick good-natured shoving contest with the lads in the toy aisle, fill a shopping cart with ETBs, then race back home to get them all on eBay to make a net loss after accounting for fuel costs and fees.

Serious answer: buy and forget, check prices every now and again, if it seems like I can sell at a price higher than what I value keeping it at, list

My simple answer is don’t sell - but here’s why. Skip below if you want to see what my routine is when I sell.

Whether you’re talking about modern or vintage, prices for cards generally have gone up over time. So, the longer you hold the cards, the more money you’ll make. This is the same for graded and un graded cards. For example, I have 4 WOTC secret rare dark raichus - but instead of selling 2-3, I’m holding them for the long term (this also depends on whether money is tight - i.e., selling cards (or duplicates of cards) to fund the purchase of a chase card).

If you have/want to sell, use ebay. Robust buyer and seller protections, huge pool of potential buyers, sophisticated search functions, and widespread use among “serious” collectors. Always put tracking on your packages, unless the card is worth less than 10 bucks, in which case, that’s up to you. Package them securely. Offer bidding/best offer over buy it now (BIN) if the card is high priced (>2-300$) - there will likely be bidding competition for the card.

Buy, forget about it for years, hope I find it again, and then eventually list it for sale. :relieved:

It depends if the card is abundant and easily replaceable or not
Treat junk slabs like they will be worth less tomorrow and rare items like you will never be able to acquire them again

Really wish I had followed this advice when I got into collecting in 2018. I had a handful of 1st ed jungle/rocket/fossil holos come through that I sold raw because I didn’t think they would get a PSA 10. Also sold some PSA 9 1st ed neo because I figured i’d be able to get a hold of a better copy eventually. Now all I have are pictures and memories of them

I bought, I smiled at collection, I stored, I forgot. Twenty years later, I missed the spike. I panic, I bought to complete, I smile at collection… Cycle has started again. See you in another 20 years.
