What is the hardest Pokémon game?

Not a question, just a fun discussion.

What do you think is the hardest Pokémongame? It´s obvious that Pokémon games aren´t hard, but some are still harder (a lot) than others.

For me, it´s without a doubt Pokémon Yellow. Starting with a Pikachu, that you want to train, because, it´s Pikachu, makes the first gym pretty impossible. You have to be very picky about the Pokémon you catch alongside it, and train a lot. Surge is a big problem as well, and Erika the same.

The league isn´t much better. Pikachu is only useful against Lorelei, and even then can´t take a hit. You´re forced to train some specific Pokémon alongside them, and train a lot, because otherwise even Bruno is going to pose a threat.

Because there aren´t a lot of trainers in the first games, training can quickly become harder and harder because you have to start battling wild Pokémon. I guess Pikachu really was the last choice, because Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur do a lot better.

It’s hard to argue against RBY as an overall generation. The sheer amount of status and broken mechanics give Gen 1 some serious teeth. Permanent freeze, wrap spam, sleep spam, para spam, critical hit spam, etc.

A lot of the difficulty is a bit unintentional though, or at least comes from the very dated mechanics, questionable type chart, and terrible movepool distributions that were eventually fixed. So if you take Gen 1 out of the equation on those grounds, I think that leaves Colosseum, XD: GOD, and Ultra Sun and Moon as standouts in the series as far as difficulty goes, and they’re incredibly fun as a result.

If we’re talking mainline games there are “parts” harder than others, but they’re all rather easy.

Gens 1 & 2! There was no easy way to access walkthrough guides or internet. I struggled as a kid playing red, all I had was my older brother, who was more like my irl rival

I would say Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald were kinda tough for a kid, especially the post game. Never managed to reach Rayquaza in its tower, or open the Regi chambers. It also took me a while to beat the elite 4 especially Drake and Steven, while the battle frontier was beyond my comprehension lol

I’m not sure about the most difficult game in general, but the most difficult thing I’ve done in a Pokémon game is get the Multi Ability Ribbon in the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum Battle Tower. To get this specific ribbon, you have to pair up with a random NPC character to defeat 50 opposing trainers in double battles. The NPC will often unintentionally sabotage you and the random elements of not being able to choose their Pokemon, moves, or attack targets makes it insanely difficult.

The last place in my red blue games where i would use butterfree. Played it several times and always give flash to butterfree and put it in pc the rest of the game after that…

Pokemon Pinball. Both of them. Catching, evolving, and evolving again pokemon based on rng all before you lose the ball was crazy difficult. I dont think i ever completed the full pokedex for it.
