What Is Going On With Ebay Authenticity Guarantee?

I bought 10 cards from the same seller on Sep 14 and all of them went to New Jersey and were processed at average speed except for one that is still there with no updates in 8 days lol.

Ya, I live in SD so from here to Santa Ana is like very simple shipping, low risk for anything going wrong. At this point I assume UPS misplaced it, and it wound up on a plane to TX somehow. Calling them in the morning *groan*.

Regarding the NJ location, I’ve had two cards for the east coast go there last week. As Dyl said, feels annoying cause I offer free shipping (higher expenses on shipping), but also more risk of misplaced packages on ‘my’ leg of the trip . Today more orders from the east coast, and auth is here in Santa Ana, so doesn’t seem like a new general rule.

Since making this thread I spoke to 2 different customer service reps, and reached out to a higher up at ebay, still no movement on the order. I opened an item not as received case. I hope this is temporary, however every part of ebay feels so clunky right now.

New record for me (do we have a leaderboard?).

Was this graded or raw?

Same here. Maybe they are opening up a new authentication center in NJ to deal with the volume of packages.

Graded!

Ah ok my graded cards are being processed better/normally, but my raw card purchases are brutal.

@smpratte I’ve also had an item stuck for over a month. I assumed eBay was just taking a while to authenticate it.

But I checked the detailed tracking and found this:

Sep 8, 11:16am — Return to Sender Processed, Not Deliverable as Addressed

Then, over two weeks ago:

Sep 15, 8:52am — Delivered, To Original Sender

I’ve just messaged the seller, zandgemporium, on eBay. Hopefully they can sort out the shipping issue and resend it. I really hope the card hasn’t been relisted. It’s quite rare, and I was excited to win the auction.

What’s odd is that it was part of a larger order from the same seller. All the other items have now passed authentication successfully; only this card had an issue.

My earlier example was graded. My one recent raw card example:

Boston card hunter interviewed a supposed ex psa employee. The employee basically said the individuals doing the authenticity guarantee are just graders that couldn’t grade accurately enough to become graders.

Yep same here

I sold 3 cards yesterday that need to get authenticated, but one of them is going to NJ for the first time while the other 2 are going to CA as usual. Why would that be? Wish I could just send them all to NJ since I’m in PA.

There’s a new issue with eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee (AG).

If a buyer lives outside of the U.S., creates a non-American account (e.g., .ca for Canada, .co.uk for UK, .de for Germany, .fr for France, etc.; not a .com account), and dropships the purchase to an address within the U.S., eBay AG will not apply to the item. I spoke with eBay’s AG Department about this over the phone and they said that this policy will probably not change.

What does this mean for U.S. sellers who rely on AG? If an international buyer dropships within the U.S., you can’t rely on AG to cover you for INR (Item Not Received), INAD (Item Not as Described), or other return requests.

What if an international buyer re-purchases your item with a .com account? For some reason, this does not fix the problem. Theoretically, if an international buyer makes a .com (U.S.) eBay account and has a U.S. address, the AG should apply. I confirmed this with eBay’s AG Department. However, this does not happen in practice, and they do not know why (said it was an IT bug).

Unfortunately, if eBay does not generate an AG label on their backend, your only option is to ship the item without enhanced seller protection or cancel the order. I am guessing that their system identifies a non-U.S. payment method, confirms that the item is not shipping internationally through eBay International Shipping, and therefore cancels the AG coverage.

What are some options for enhanced seller coverage if you really want to make the sale to this international buyer? Your other options are:

  1. No Dropshipping: Request that the buyer uses eBay International Shipping and sends the item directly to their country. This will be significantly more costly to your buyer due to shipping charges, import duties, handling fees, taxes, etc.
  2. Vault Shipment: Request that the buyer uses PSA Vault. This will initiate an AG order. If they do not have a PSA Vault account and would prefer another vault (e.g., Fanatics Collect, Alt, etc.), this would be much safer than dropshipping to a random address that your international buyer does not reside at. If you go this option, make sure to add signature tracking to prevent INR cases.

If neither of these options work, you can cancel the order and state that there is an issue with the buyer’s shipping address.

TL;DR: eBay Authenticity Guarantee has a loophole where international buyers can dropship to addresses in the U.S. and skirt the AG system. It could be used for malicious purposes like opening up INR or INAD cases, and it significantly reduces your protections as a seller.

have u had that happen recently? that was an issue years ago but i believe they fixed it awhile ago and ive personally had plenty of orders go thru auth where the buyer has a non-US account (assuming they shipped to us address)

you can also block po box so they cant avoid auth that way

Yep, I’ve had it happen several times within the past few weeks, so it must be a recurring issue. Also have PO boxes blocked for that reason.

I suspect that if your international buyers made a .com account, there shouldn’t be a problem. But if their info is already tied to an international account, there seems to be an unresolvable issue.

ok yeah i double checked to make sure i wasnt crazy ive had one just 2 weeks ago where the buyer has a non-US account, shipped to US address and it still went thru auth

so no idea what triggers it havent had what u are describing happen since like last year

also international shipping is blocked for items above like $2500 sometimes even $1000 depending on the country so u cant ship alot of pokemans internationally with full protections that way

Update on this.

I had an international account dropship to a city near me, so I thought, “Why not?” The item did not go through AG like I mentioned above. I shipped it out with USPS Signature Tracking and it was delivered within 24 hours.

However, eBay is holding my payout for 7 days after the confirmed delivery date. I contacted them to determine why this might be and they said some mumbo jumbo bullshit that meant nothing. The first support member said that I would be paid out after we finished speaking (he could tell I was annoyed). That was a big old lie, as the payout still said 7 days after the 24 hours had passed. The second support member said that they could not change it in their system, and that it was in place for buyer returns and garbage like that.

Usually, eBay payouts are given within 24-72 hours after delivery, so I don’t know why they are forcing a 7 day wait period on non-AG orders that are dropshipped by international accounts. And apparently it can’t be changed.

So what does this mean? If you get a dropshipper and it doesn’t trigger AG, enjoy waiting an extra 7 days after your confirmed delivery to get paid out + zero protection for INAD cases (and zero protection for INR if you don’t pay for signature tracking).

Also, eBay customer service is like the seventh circle of hell, and has only gotten worse in recent years.
