The true and only answer https://youtu.be/yqmBTsdRcEk
From the Dictionary:
True ADJECTIVE [ADJ n]
You use true to emphasize that a person or thing is sincere or genuine, often in contrast to something that is pretended or hidden.
ADJECTIVE [v-link ADJ to n]
If you are true to someone, you remain committed and loyal to them. If you are true to an idea or promise, you remain committed to it and continue to act according to it.
There you have it. A person sincere or genuine and that remains committed and loyal to collecting.
So far 3 people have sent me 100 USD and become true collectors.
A true collector is just one that isn’t false. Ez pz.
Likewise if you’re a false collector, then you obviously aren’t a true one. This is shameful.
So ask yourself this…
Is you false? Or is you not false?
Don’t you not think you are a true collector, or not?
Theres only group that I don’t classify as “true collector”… before I say, no offense. Just coming from a old soul collector who is totally biased. But its the “sealed collectors” whos shelf looks like a 2022 Walmart shelf. At this point your just chasing the dollars and USING the hobby right?
This does not apply to those holding to open themselves for enjoyment down the road, etc. Just sad to see these people caught in their own echo chambers of sealed stonks now days.
You are only a tru collector if you do not care about condition. You can buy more cards in bad condition, and if you buy only nm cards or better you are only in it for the money

As a fellow internet user that chooses to automatically be offended at first glance of someone else’s opinion, I’M OFFENDED!!!1!1!!
Jokes aside, do you think there’s any merit in someone collecting sealed items simply because of the history behind said item? Or you’re just saying solely for resale purposes? I don’t collect much sealed stuff personally, but it makes total sense to me if someone wants to have an item in their collection they can point to and say “here is the exact product you could pick up in 1999 that led to xyz in the hobby”. I can think of a number of things I would personally collect sealed because I think they’re cool: a sealed Southern Islands binder, base set blisters, etc.
In fact, as a mostly non-sealed collector, one of the coolest things I saw recently was a sealed base set blister that still had the original store sticker price on it ($3.99…RIP). I should have bought it; the story that piece alone tells is a pretty sweet item.

This is slowly devolving into the unpopular opinions thread.
I wish I could say that this opinion was the wildest one here but some of these… holy
Attaining “true collector” status is like getting one of those achievement trophies for a PS5 game.
…I don’t own a PS5, so I don’t really care.
Don’t we all know the answer already?
If you’re only in it for the money, you’re just a wannabe businessman.
Everyone else qualifies in some way or another.
I think the most cringeworthy are streamers/tubers who pretend they know Pokemon but can’t even pronounce those from the original 151 correctly, like it’s the first time they’ve ever seen them but they are 30 years old and yet Chorizord is their favourite.
In my personal opinion, anyone who collects anything is a collector. True or not is just semantics. Just on this forum, I have realized that you can collect just about anything and for any reason, and co-exist in harmony. To be honest we need all kinds of collectors for the overall health of the hobby.
Cheers!

Wow just calling me out!
If you‘re in the rabbit hole deep enough to make an account on e4, you’re a true collector.

Now here’s the comment we can all agree on
E4 puts the “E” on the end of “tru”.
I guess CGC is a true collector
